The Interview Thread for SCEAers!

Officially gave up hope at close of business yesterday (Friday). Received phone call from an interviewer on my home phone at 7:30 last night. Whoopee!!! 5 others in my hs have already had their interviews, so I just thought I was out of luck.

^Nice. Best of luck!

Just got back from my interview. I think it well. She even said she’d give me a recommendation for this program. It was at a grocery store lol.

I haven’t received an interview invitation yet.

Had mine today FINALLY. It had been postponed to yesterday, but when I reached her house she wasn’t there. Turned out she forgot it was at her house and thought it was at her office. Oh well.

Went pretty well today I think. My interviewer seemed like a serious, introverted person. It lasted about 45 minutes.

Had mine today too! It lasted just under 2 hours. The only problem I had was that I didn’t know if I should keep talking while she was taking notes, so I paused for a few seconds to let her finish. On the whole, she was very friendly and bubbly, told me a few humorous stories about her experiences there. I’m not sure if we ‘connected’ though.

Strangely, she kept saying she was somewhat put off by the atmosphere at Yale. Looking back, I keep thinking it was a hint that I shouldn’t go to Yale. Ah, post-interview paranoia…

I’ve got a little laryngitis at the moment. My interview was today. Yesterday, I was not even audible; all I could do was whisper. It was the most inconvenient case of laryngitis in the history of laryngitis. I was so nervous that I’d have to whisper my responses for an entire hour. I drank as much tea as possible leading up to the interview, preying that my voice would come back. (It mostly did, and it was probably enjoyable for him to watch my voice crack in and out.)

Other than that, I think it went really well. He was a very warm guy, and I felt completely comfortable talking to him. I don’t know about other interviewers, but he didn’t try to throw me with any prepared questions. We just talked about my activities and Yale (we even watched the Yale Harvard football game on the tv for a few minutes).

^Sorry to hear about your laryngitis =( but I’m sure the interviewer understood! I’m glad it went well besides that.

My interviewer called today which was luck because I was home sick from a debate tournament and asked if I had an on-campus interview. I said I did have one over the summer and she was like, “Oh…wow you’re the only one I’ve heard of that has.” (I’m in Nevada so it’s not exactly a day trip to get over to the campus.) She said she was going to contact Yale to see if she could offer me a second interview but she said only one was needed.

…so I’m still waiting.

^You can have both an on-campus interview and an alumni interview. Your interviewer probably wasn’t aware of this, but you can definitely have both.

^^Yes, a friend of mine at school had both.

I’m still waiting for an interview. :frowning: If they call while my phone is off, they’ll most likely leave a message or email me, right?

And I live in one of the most populated cities in the US! ARGH.

^Yes. I can’t imagine that they would call once and just give up on you. If he or she calls you, your interviewer will either leave you a message or contact you in some other way.

And don’t worry–I live in a highly populated area as well and I received my interview assignment just a couple days ago.

Then there also are probably a lot of applicants from your area. I’m sure it’s frustrating, but really, it’s out of your control. If you get one, fantastic, and if you don’t, no problem. I really do believe them when they say that it won’t negatively impact your app.

I agree with ccuser. If they say it doesn’t make a difference, believe them! It leads to awkward situations though. My best friend still hasn’t got an interview call and i know she feels bad cause she knows I’ve got one already.

Once Dec 15 rolls around we should post their decision and whether an interview was granted to see if any pattern comes up. :)

^so ccuser and imagodei if my interviewer said she was going to contact Yale and ask if I could have both on-campus and alumni interview and get back in touch with me is it safe to guess I’m probably going to be contacted again for my alumni interview after the confusion is straighed out? (I myself didn’t think I would get an alumni interview after the on-campus one)

^I would guess that he’ll probably call back. If not, Yale probably told him that they already have enough information on you (which would in no way mean a rejection).

Just had my interview! It lasted about an hour. I was wondering, is it customary to let your interviewer know what your admissions decisions was, or do they find out on their own after Dec. 15th?

useyourname: student results are given to the interviewers a few days after you’re informed. If admitted, they’ll likely call you to congratulate you, invite you to the admitees’ functions, etc. – to get you to put Yale at the top of your list. If deferred or rejected, you won’t get contact. If deferred and then admitted RD, expect a call. Good luck to you

owlwise: there’s no prohibition from having both on campus and alumni interview. However, you have the lowest priority and your time may be given to another SCEA applicant if there are still any outstanding. Otherwise, you still might get an alumni interview. But it’s nothing tobe concerned about
