It is only a matter of time before Germany starts having its own problems, and if/when that happens, watch out below.

Economy is fine. ;)

Seems like a micro-example of the Federal impasse.

GM’s new CIO Randy Mott plans to bring nearly all IT work in-house as one piece of a sweeping IT overhaul. It’s a high-risk strategy that’s similar to what Mott drove at Hewlett-Packard.

Insourcing IT on that scale will require GM to go on a hiring binge for software developers, project managers, database experts, business analysts, and other IT pros over the next three years. As part of that effort, it plans to create three new software development centers, all of them in the U.S. IT outsourcers, including GM’s one-time captive provider, EDS, face the loss of contracts once valued at up to $3 billion a year.

How does GM benefit from insourcing? I thought programmers in India were just as talented but a lot less experienced.

There are downsides to outsourcing too.

QE III looks like it will happen some time in next 6 weeks, should have a short term upside move on market, but it won’t hold…Housing is shaky, looks good on the surface, but most gains in price is because of foreclosures being snapped up by investors…Job creation is pathetic, wages are just above stagnant…on a positive note, i have gotten several estimates on a home remodel project, had a very diificlut time in the early spring finding contractors willing to come and look at project, let alone provide an estimate…

The ECRI guy said the US is already in recession. I was so hoping ECRI would be wrong this time.

I don’t think the fed will do QE 3. They have gotten such flax for doing QE2 and rightly so.

I wholeheartedly agree that QE III should be off the table, but the Fed has only one move left before getting to close to the election, so i believe it will happen within 6 weeks…

David Einhorn and his jelly donut argument. Good stuff.

One my best performers in recent buys is MO. I got in when it was $23.85 more than a year ago. I think it has the 52 weeks high today at around $35. On top of that, I have collected/reinvested over $2.00 per share in dividends.

Dad II, that is a fantastic return.

But its a tobacco stock. Eww. On moral issues alone I would never buy a tobacco stock.

I understand.

I will probably sell part of that if the 15% dividend tax rate changes at the end of the year.

Well, let’s see what happens.

Companies that may not be here in the next few years? In no particular order

Best Buy
HH Gregg
JC Penney
Nokia
Rimm

I think that Nokia will be around in the next few years. There’s still a massive market for non-smartphones. I have a very, very smart BIL that works there and he doesn’t seem particularly worried about his job and it looks like they are still hiring in the Boston area.

JC Penney - retail is very crowded right now and there are several big names in the slightly upscale category. With retail, it’s all about execution.

Best Buy - I buy electronics at Newegg, Amazon, Target, the Apple Store. Best Buy is a last resort if I want something right away. I usually try to plan better than that.

RIMM? Death spiral.

Don’t know what HH Gregg is.

Maybe JRCC, Arch Coal and Radioshack?

Hh gregg is an electronics retailer, the future looks grim for them…Radioshack has been at death’s door for quite awhile, yet they still have a pulse, barely. ;)
