China said all is well, lol. For now…JPM had better then expected earnings as did Wells Fargo…

It’s pretty hard to avoid the premium unless you’re in a physical market crash (not the same as a paper market crash). I bought them from my local coin dealer - no sales tax in my state. You do whatever you can to keep your costs low.

You might try Krugerrands over Eagles and Maples. They are ugly and typically discolored because they add a hardener but the premium is usually lower than Eagles and Maples. I believe that there is some tax benefit to trading Eagles - they might not be subject to the collectables tax - I’m not sure as I’ve never sold them.

My local dealer gave me a break when I bought ten or more at a time. I think that there was more of a break for one hundred or more at a time.

You could buy a 100 oz bar too.

You might be better off with 100 oz silver bars. There are typically a lot of these floating around and you might do better on the premiums compared to coins because you don’t have small transaction costs. Silver Rounds (they aren’t minted currency) may save you some premium too but you’d want those that are commonly known or else they may be hard to sell.

^^^ That’s good stuff. I had not considered the 100 oz bars. I will have to check into these.

Englehard and Johnson Mathhey are two of the more popular silver bar labels.

quote]JPM had much better than expected earnings but it’s only up a little bit. surprising.

Maybe the problem was news that traders may have lied about the losses. That means that government agencies will be lingering around for longer…some people don’t want to hang around a stock with continuing headline risk.

I’d be looking for a new situation…

This is a tough crowd to please - almost 6% in one day isn’t too shabby.

36.07 2.03(5.96%)

6%!!! Sorry, I hadn’t realized that JPM was up 6%…

It has bugged me that where you mark the trades, what you say the positions are worth, affects your profits, and then affects your pay package.

There is an incentive to mark your trades incorectly if that increases your bonus.

The pros are manipulating the market…volume is terrible, wait until the market rolls over, before taking a long position…China is in worse shape then they admit to, one can’t believe the latest money manager who scammed its clients is the last…the libor scandal has only just begun…you are better to drink your money and recycle the cans and bottles

Volume was awful on a 200 point gain in the Dow.

After 7:30 pcoast time…might as well go home…

Well…my short msft 30 puts closed in the money…but I didn’t sell too many this time and i already sold next week calls against them. I am short a lot of july 27 puts and earnings are coming…but I will be shocked if MSFT breaks 27 next week.

My intc 27 calls expired worthless. I would have preferred the stock to close above 27 because I was long the stock against the calls.

I am short JPM puts that expire in a week. I think I am ok there, but who knows with banks.

I don’t have a position on in Aapl. I don’t have a good feel for what that
stock is going to do. I don’t know if I am going to do anything in Aapl. Depends on how much time and how bored I am.

Everything I am doing is based on opinion. I have no idea what is going
to happen with
any stock, except I think it is a good probabilty that volume will stink.

Too much info in the rest of the post.

I am starting to worry about INTC and AAPL. INTC’s large customers have been essentially warning on PC sales. INTC has a lot of other customers besides the biggies and they have reported very good earnings even as the PC companies have floundered - but are things catching up to Intel? They do have the server business which should be doing well serving up apps to mobile users.

Apple has the downside of people waiting for the iPhone 5 so I suspect that growth won’t be as good - I hope that the stock price has priced this in. They have the new Macs and especially the Retina MacBook Pro but the slowing down in key areas bugs me.

I do not own Intel or Apple now - actually I don’t own much of anything right now. I could jump back in at any time but stuff from the Fed and elsewhere has given me pause. I saw an article on the Fed within the last hour where it said that the Fed will encourage Congress to act - there is still a lot of reluctance for the Fed to act and I expect that the market will tank every time the Fed reiterates that.

I think Intc has been Pretty week since it has had its run to 29.

Aapl…who the hell knows.

BCEagle91, we all have our own definition of what a long term hold is. I think some people would say a year. Others multiple years.
I guess for some traders…3 days.

What is your definition?

A year or more.

Me too…

I do own stuff for over 10 years, and I don’t sell those even if I hate the market.

You sold almost everything you have owned for over a year?

I sold everything in my accounts. I didn’t sell my wife’s stuff. I bought back PBA and EQR at the end of Thursday. But I could sell them on Monday. I’m pretty jittery on the market. Thursday was clearly a nice bottom for a short-term or maybe even a swing trade. But I’m looking for a longer trend and I don’t think that it’s going to be up.

Fed is playing a game of talk and hints of action while not wanting to actually do anything and it’s a tease and we have the market that we have this summer because of it.

BCEagle91, You have to go with your instincts.

Do you sell everything often?

Like I said, I don’t know what is going to happen. My instincts aren’t telling me anything right now.

I do know that September is historically not the best month to come in long…and next year is the first year of the presidential cycle and that is usually the worst year for stocks of the 4 years.

But the Fed is heavily involved in the markets…so who knows?

I agree the Fed is doing a lot of posturing, but I think the Fed is out of bullets.
There is also a lot of talk of getting the federal budget under control.
I think if we do that, the market is going to get crushed. :)

I don’t think that is going to happen. I think the budget talk is political posturing.

I have to make a decision in a week on the private business I have invested in that is blowing up.
It looks like we are going to get new management. So, do I put good money in after bad?

This decision is going to consume me for the next several days.

No, it’s not something that I do often. I’m sure that I did this in 2008.

I don’t throw good money after bad. If I make a mistake, then I admit it and move on.

Whole Foods is looking for a place to set up shop in New Hampshire near where I work. That will be nice. I still like them but they are technically weaker than EQR at the moment. I think that the luxury retailers may take a hit this summer. Not sure about Whole Foods completely. There are regular articles on the problems with our food supply chain. This week it was antibiotics in chickens causing UTIs in women.
