Great link, doct.

I am so glad I am out. Although, when I saw that the ISM number was about to come out, I did twitch. Lol

Why is the stock market up so much today?

Because it has been down so much recently?

Market doesn’t need a reason to go up or down.

Maybe Window Dressing and now comes the undressing.

“People already have products that do separate things. Convertible tablets, while they might be cool, are an additional product and consumers will have to think about whether they need that additional product.”

“The premier venture capital firms know the best investments have high technical risk and low market risk. Market risk causes companies to fail. In other words, you want companies that are highly likely to succeed if they can really deliver what they say they will. Unfortunately, consumer Internet companies dont follow that pattern. They usually have low technical risk and high market risk. There is very little chance they cant deliver their product. The big issue is whether the startups product is of value to a large enough audience.”

Anecdotes…

Santa Monica rental market is red hot. 1 bedrooms rent for 2,000 to 2,300. 10 to 20 renters for every available property. A friend of mine can’t rent a place. He is offering 6 months rent up front.

My partner talked to somebody in the shipping business and the guy said shipments are down a couple percent year to year but prices are up so revenues are up.

My partner also talked to somebody in the bagging industry. Big bags. Economy is flat to down.

That’s what I said.

You mean every article that was spawned from a single article - the NYT (this is how journalism works now). And while I trust in the NYT’s fact-checking, I don’t necessarily agree with how they’re interpreting their information. They point to the fact that the White House isn’t pushing it, and Congress is putting it by the wayside. But the White House isn’t pushing anything at all right now, and Congress is puttering around too.

There haven’t been any real negotiations over the tax regime post-election, so the fact that payroll taxes have been “ignored” (which the NYT interpreted as disinterest) is more a consequence of neither party wanting to give the other an additional last minute talking point. Hence why what little public grandstanding there was has been on the >250k Bush cuts, which is a much more defensible and already familiar argument to the electorate for both parties.

I’m not saying the payroll tax cuts will be renewed for sure, but you can bet it will be at least a rook on the chess board after the elections, regardless of who wins.

Metropolitan areas with 5 million or more people saw double-digit population growth rates in their downtowns during the time period, the Census Bureau reported. New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington also saw large boosts in the number of residents living within a 2-mile radius of City Hall.

“It certainly confirms what a number of us have been saying about a shift toward central urban living,” said John McIlwain, senior resident fellow at the Urban Land Institute. But, he added, the shift isn’t happening in all downtowns throughout the country.

Most of the people my daughter’s age want to live in cities, especially NYC, and SF. A little LA, DC too. We have a bias towards SF.

I was told today that in the area where I sold my house, home prices are 10 percent higher now. No inventory.

It is possible that the area where I live now has also seen home prices increase 10 percent in the last year. Not sure. No inventory either. Housing is a large part of the cpi. I know it is rent based, but rents are higher here too. I wouldn’t be surprised if rents are up 10 percent in some areas. In SF, rents are up more than 10 percent. If this spreads to many areas of the country, what will this do to the cpi, and then fed policy?

If I was in my 20’s, I would want to live in a major city too.

If the CPI shows inflation then they change the CPI formula.
