The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

AAPL earnings are Weds Jan 23 (Thanks DocT) and INTC earnings are this Thurs Jan 17.

AAPL Jan 19 options (before earnings) are trading at around 40% implied, while Jan 25 options (after earnings) are trading at 60% implied. I know the stock has been very volatile, but I can’t call those implieds “cheap.”

The ah stuff doesn’t necessarily work. It’s not like offers are sitting there waiting to be picked off.

Aapl calls that expire next week are not cheap. Njres, thanks for the volatility numbers.

Not sure if I was right or wrong on FB. I got out at a profit and bought the 29.5 puts that have moved favorably but not by much. I’ll probably get out of the puts tomorrow.

Its not obvious where schwab has implied volatility, etrade has it. I typically use ivolatility.com

DeMark is saying that the bottom is in for aapl either today or tomorrow and expects it to rally to 600 over the next several weeks. The down trend has exhausted itself.

The night time fast money crew was buying aapl today

Amazing how people know where aaple is going.

They must have all the money.

So far so good…aapl is trading 489.85.

Did you buy anything doct?

What volatility do you see the 500 calls that expire onjan 25?

67?

In ivolatility = 60.08 and in etrade = 57.11

Ok thanks. Demark and the people on fast money…they have been out of apple or short since 700? Today was their first purchases in months?

Apparently demark said that his indicators said to sell aapl at 700. His indicators predicted the low of 494.75 (only to 2 decimal places?? where is this guy’s precision?), so I guess he wasn’t in. Actually the hedgeye guy - Keith Mccullough has been a super bear on aapl for quite a while and he bought today. Guy Adami has been negative the stock and previously had said to wait until earnings - kinda of the “show me” attitude about aapl.

I find you guys completely incomprehensible to try to parse but also quite fascinating.

Carry on!

Ok…doct, thanks.

Joe Terranova said AAPL was a generational buy @522 last Nov.

And now he said that it was an emotional mistake and clearly he was wrong.

Doct, you have to be cafeful with that put spread that expires this week.

The open interest is very large at 500 a share. Doesn’t mean apple is going to be pegged there, but if it is close…

Plus…if appl starts rallying above 500…that spread can get crushed fast.

AAPL + 7% premarket.

Congrats to those that took a chance yesterday.

I sold the 510 - 500 put spread for 7.2. I may unload the 490 - 475 1/25 spread later today while it still has some time value

Nice doct,

I actually get short aapl above 510 and I will be down on the trade above 533 or so if aapl gets there in the next couple of days. I need aapl to slow down its rise…

Ahhhhhhhhh!!! ShouldawouldacouldaAAPL!!! I bet there are thousands like me… I thought I “liked” AAPL below 500, but it went below so sharply it scared me away. I need a postit note: “Don’t trade AAPL” just in case I get tempted… :D

LO split 3:1 today, if you like a healthy (5%+) dividend… wait, I mean an unhealthy dividend…

I don’t invest in cig companies. I realize other companies are not perfect. But cigs, forget it.

Aapl is working out so far and I can’t believe I don’t feel all that good about it. If it turns against me, I really won’t feel all that good. I guess I don’t enjoy gambling. One reason I just did a spread 3 times.
