The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

My dog has a different method. I placed a grid on my yard at the beginning of 2012 and after letting him out for a few days, I picked the stocks my dog did NOT potty on. :)

I’ve got iwm, qqq and spy calls expiring tomorrow - I guess I’ll roll them out another month

I sold spy puts st the close that expire next week. Looks like a slightly down opening. I wish I waited. :)

Looks like 3 winners, doct.

Yes - I did well on these.

:)…

INTC took a 4% dump AH. Apparently beating by 3 cents was mostly due to some tax stuff?

About half of their chips are 22nm now. Atom is 22nm and they should start shipping 14 nm in time for the holidays. That’s really, really small!

I don’t know…I just assume Intc is going to suck…

Intc is becoming general motors. Slowly. Just a big company that doesn’t grow…

Revenue was down…

Earnings were down…

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/18/technology/intel-earnings-are-sharply-lower.html

Hmmmm

Futures are flat. I am a little surprised. Intc, Goog, aapl, spy were down in the after market. I must be missing the winners. Spy, goog, aapl weren’t down much.

Might be a good time to sell some aapl otm puts. The 1/25 435’s = 1.35, the 7/20 300’s = 1.78 etc.

I did that lsst year…

This year?

I’m not going into July either. 2 earnings seasons.

Futures close later now, so they had a chance to react to INTC and T before they officially “closed.” They are well off their highs, especially NQ.

That’s great. Thanks. What time are they using to get a futures closing price?

401K is up $4500 YTD, mostly from the S & P 500 index fund. Should I take some profit here?

I think this means the close is 5:15 pm on the east coast, 1 hour later than it used to be.

Yes…that’s a great link. I could never figure out the closing prices. Thanks.

I closed out the last of my aapl call spread for 17.75, so now I just have the appl butterfly spread.

Vix so low. Complacency?

Complacency or the stock market isn’t going to be moving much.

I sold some aig today. Usually I just sell calls, but the volatility is so low there is very little premium to capture. I am going to have to find something else now. :)

VIX chart for those unfamiliar with it. Talk about a breakdown. That is complacency.

^^yep - and I’ve been buying those wonderful ratio put spreads that expire over the next 2 months.
