The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

The thing that bugs me the most about the economy contracting slightly is that now we have to listen to those fools at ECRI saying “Oh yes, we are in a recession all right.”

Lol…

We’d need two quarters for that to be right and I don’t think that the previous one is going to get revised down. It’s a bit amazing that defense industry cutbacks have such an impact on the overall economy.

[Facebook Earnings Beat; Profit Margin Falls Sharply - Yahoo! Finance](http://finance.yahoo.com/news/facebook-earnings-beat-profit-margin-212321130.html)

Mobile revenues almost doubled but operating margins declined sharply. Not sure this is a good stock for a growth investor.

AMZN’s margins expand slightly so the stock goes crazy up even though earnings were terrible. AAPL’s margins decrease slightly and the stock crumbles. FB’s margins drop but the stock stays stable. I am not sure what this all means.

^^^based on that FB should go down not stay stable unless the press focuses on the mobile revenues doubling

Bought the fb 3/1 29 - 31 call spread for .84.

Interesting…

Wow…FB…I don’t want to be premature but nice Doct.

Yes, DocT very, very nice but why do I feel there are sellers waiting until the last 30 seconds of the day or are they waiting for that tomorrow?

An acquaintance owns a shoe store in Arizona and he said business is terrible. Last year was great. He expanded his store 50% larger, or was it 100%? I forget. Anyway…sales are flat to up 20 percent. That’s not good because his costs are up. He said there is a glut of shoes for sale from wholesalers. He said the market is flooded with shoes.

Same guy said there is an upscale retailer that does about 5,000 a day in sales that one day last week did 35 bucks in sales.

I got this email last night that I read today. I am glad I didn’t read it last night. I am a limited partner in a business. The company struggled last year, but we got new management so I added to my investment last year as did others. The news was good. Really good. Then I got the email…

Cash flows are lower than expected. Costs are higher. There is a legal issue that needs to be resolved but it is going to cost bucks. The company is in default on a loan and the company needs more money.

Then I am short these puts in Rimm and the stock is dropping and dropping. What a @@@@@@ day.

I sold some spy puts. We better not crash now. lol

Anyway, those are my anecdotes for the day. :)

I wonder what the $35 item was for the upscale retailer? A handkerchief? A coin purse?

I don’t know…

You would know more than me…

Is it getting time to buy rimm? Some support at 12.

I sold puts too early so I can’t be objective.

We’ve got the talking head gurus again like last January saying we’re in for a major correction - some are saying 50 - 60%. A correction didn’t happen for months last year. These guys have an easy way of making money - be wrong all the time.

I just found out those zeroes I wanted to buy last week were 6 times oversubscribed. I was able to get half of my order filled which is a paltry amount. Better than nothing.

I am going to avoid the talking gurus.
With the limited partnership blowing up, this is the biggest loss I have had in over 15 years.

I don’t need any talking gurus to lose.

How come you don’t make money when you lose like all those gurus?

:)…

I haven’t figured out their secret. :)

I’m sorry about the LLC dstark. :(
