The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

yeah - may have to roll those 60 puts out. Any reason why this is going down. I also have 2/16 55 puts.

May have to go out to the March 50’s

The 3-d stocks are getting hit.

I am shocked how much the volatility has gone up. The 60 puts were around .20. The stock drops less than 5.00 and the 55 puts are .50 with one less day before expiration.

I am going to just watch. The stock is going to split. I don’t want to roll.

Closed out BCE for a small gain. It’s moving too slowly for my tastes (yeah, this was supposed to be a patience stock).

A while back you guys asked me to report back with my feelings on the 3d printer I bought. We got the 3D Touch printer and have mixed feelings about it. The machine really feels like it was built by a bunch of hobbyists, with a ton of kinks that need to be worked out by the end user. For example, here’s[/url">http://www.bitsfrombytes.com/usd/sites/www.bitsfrombytes.com/files/imagecache/product/BFB-3DTouch-Smoke-3D-Printer_2_0.jpg]here’s a picture of the machine. One of the main issues with getting a good print is keeping the area you’re printing warm enough. Why are there practically no walls on the unit? Their tech support suggested taping large sheets of paper around all of the holes to keep heat in. Their feedstock material at the moment is also mediocre, with it often jamming or having brittle parts which can ruin a print that may take a few hours. There’s a constant need to realign things, most of it having to be done manually. Surface finish is so-so, and feels inconsistent from one project to the next. We’ve also already had a number of fans go bad with only light use (replaced under warranty, but still a hassle to replace on our time). As of now, they’re still great machines for the tinkerer, but expect considerably more issues than trying to connect those first generation wifi enabled networked printers that were the bane of my existence for a few years. I think the commercial units are WAY better than the consumer ones offering better reliability, surface finish, repeatability, and features. The difference isn’t like getting a Honda and a Lexus, it’s like a Ferrari and a Huffy.

We’re also looking into purchasing a different style 3d printer for doing projects with very high resolution printing, but companies are still trying to make a printable material that will do what we want it to.

So basically the 3 for 2 split in ddd means that if I have 1 put contract that expires in the money, I’ll have 150 shares.

BCEagle91, I would take a small gain today.:)

RacinReaver, thanks for your post and nice photo too. When the stock is down 4+, I would like to see positive news. A false reality is ok. :)

Yes doct, but the strike prices will be adjusted.

Ususlly the premiums rise a little bit. I don’t find shorting premium into splits as quick winners.

so shouldn’t the stock price drop by 1/3?

Yes…

There will be new weeklys in a couple of days. I prefer rolling into those if necessary.

The stock was just at this price a few days ago. It’s the option premium prices that blow me away. Much higher now. Hopefully, the premiums in the weeklys will collapse. Quickly. :)

Only 3 more days left. :)

The stock is acting well in the after hours.

My company had done a 3 for 2 split recently but it was a reverse split where for every 3 shares, you got 2 and the cash value of the third. It has two different options, one that is an adjusted option.

This morning, I received a news email about one of my large holdings. It was a very bearish article on the technicals of my stock.

Of course the stock way outperformed the indices today.

I know that those that call tops and bottoms are right sometimes and look like heroes. But I’d rather be right most of the time.

Yeah, I would rather be right most of the time. I was never that interested in selling tops or buying bottoms. I just want to make money. It is annoying to read negative articles about stocks we are long. I guess the write of the article you mentioned BCEagle91, doesn’t have much pull.

Doct, in the case you highlighted, the option volatility should decrease because 1/3 of the value of the company has a volatility of zero.

Well, it’s only annoying if you think that the articles are correct. If you’re in a stock for strong fundamental reasons, then the market should see it your way eventually. I run into many purely technical types that have no clue about fundamentals and they just roll with the punches. I prefer to use both kinds of analysis. I shouldn’t worry in general as I’ve done my homework. But sometimes I worry anyways.

Sometimes I worry. I worry when I don’t understand something. What am I missing?

I worry when I see negative news and see the potential for a big impact on my long.

I worry when I do see potentially large negatives and I am long anyway.

I worry when my position is too large. :)

Usually, I don’t worry.

Well, news is different from some no-name blogger making comments. Sometimes news stories are totally bogus too. Some analyst that doesn’t really know an industry making some comments that indicate a lack of depth. How do you expect a business major to understand semiconductor manufacturing and fabrication?

Quick - run out and buy shares in Poland Spring. Product placement is everything in advertising.

I must have missed that.

Aren’t they owned by Vivendi?
