I was kidding. You all must not have watched the SOTU and GOP response last night. Definitely free advertising.

Did not watch the response. :)

The shorting of the pairs of etfs is a dangerous game. Capital intensive. Could work.
One way moves can hurt in the short run if you are short the pairs. Maybe, the long run too if the move is large enough.

There are people or firms that try to make money off of the decay. Some by selling options.

If you play with the tna, tza chart…you can see that results vary depending on the time period and how the market does…

The previous article about PEs and market valuation was interesting. A little confusing. :)

Good link DocT. I have been trying to figure out how to exploit the decay of etfs for several years. I have been thinking of adding options into the strategy as well, but not much success yet.

Stocks need to correct or these guys will be wrong as usual. Maybe they want to be right once in a while: [Stocks are headed for a correction - Feb. 13, 2013](Stocks are headed for a correction)

I’ve got to make a decision on my 2/16 spy 130 calls and 2/16 iwm 80 calls. Do I roll them out or just sell, take the profit and wait. I’m contemplating the latter.

On a trading note…

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/13/knight-getco-profits-idUSL1N0BDI1S20130213

Getco is one of the more profitable high frequency trading firms. Getco’s profits have dropped dramatically over the last several years. Getco internalizes order flow, so buy or sell orders go to Getco, not to the street or an exchange. So if you are sitting on the bid or offer waiting to get filled…sorry…Getco is taking that order. Getco thanks you very much.

I put in a buy order for GOOG at $780 when it was $784 this morning. It dropped down though I didn’t see $780 on my streamer but apparently I was filled. It went back up and then dropped down to $780 later in the afternoon and then bounced back up. I don’t really care who sold me the shares, I got them at my price. I just put in a low-ball limit order. If I got it I got it and if I didn’t, I didn’t.

Do you think that is a reasonable price for goog?

GOOG is a pretty hard stock to value - yes, they have revenues and profits and there are trends in place for those but they have a ton of research projects in a variety of different areas, many outside of their core competencies. How do you value the hardware and software of a self-driving car? The Google Glass project? I’m meeting with a friend that just started there, for lunch one of these days and I’d like to get his impressions for what it’s like working there and what the culture is like.

My buy and hold is more based on technical considerations. I bought it a few weeks ago and decided to add to that position because it’s hard finding anything else that I want to buy right now. So I’ve just added very small amounts to existing positions. The previous high for GOOG is $769 to $775 (depending on your definition of high) back in October. The current pattern is a pennant which is typically bullish. So I feel comfortable with my GOOG position at this time. This is a trade; not an investment for me.

any thoughts on buying CTL today?
