I have accounts in both so I use both. I don’t like options trading in schwab as much. Etrade makes it easier for me to see what’s going on. I can’t stand that when I want to trade a spread in schwab, that I have to either quickly determine in my head or with a calculator what the midpoint is. Etrade gives me that information which I find handy since I usually start somewhere around the midpoint. It also does multileg trades more easily. I think that schwab catches my mistakes better however.

Interesting. What is the cost to trade options at etrade?

How is etrade’s tax forms?

That flat fee for options at Schwab bugs me.
Schwab still doesn’t have their tax treatment for options correct. This time though, the incorrectness was immaterial.

really - etrade is $1 more - 9.95. For me the tax form is more intelligible. I find Schwab’s stuff irritating how it reports trades. I don’t care if I buy 10 contracts that it was 7, 2 & 1 all at the same price. Last year it made it very difficult to determine wash sale trades.

Yes… I don’t like how Schwab handles wash sales.

10 bucks is too much for me.

Is it 10 bucks plus a charge per contract?

When I trade options vs stock multiple times in a day, Schwab had trouble getting the pnl correct for the tax forms. Haven’t done that trade this year. Not worth the time to reconcile the numbers.

.75 per contract which I think is the same as Schwab. If you do >150 trades a quarter, its a $7.99 fee.

I see that trade station is $1 per contract. Others are also cheaper than etrade or schwab. I may look into this going forward.

Ok thanks. I think eventually I may have to look at IB for options.

One plus for Schwab…I don’t worry about Schwab going under.

I went to the Najarian’s option monster site and it had something with trade monster for .75 a contract

Pretty funny for Henry Blodget to be warning people against following pundits.

Not really - since he knows what he’s talking about.

This was an interesting week. The puts I sold expired worthless while the stocks dropped. Hlf and Ddd dropped pretty good.

A reason I do like to sell puts. Of course the upside is limited.

When Qe ends, the volatilites are going to increase and the market will probably drop
10 percent or more.

Selling puts will be a loser during that time. This will be the time when puts sold at .50 rise to 5 bucks.

I think the stock market usually corrects 10 percent every
18 months or so. Another bad time to be short puts.

I never had problems with this. It doesn’t drop that fast and if it does roll it out, maybe get assigned at a good price for something you want to own or roll it out again. I did this last year with a few stocks that corrected more than 10%. It takes a lot of patience to keep going for the small sum of money you get. Unfortunately I made a few bucks and on the last time after I escaped without being assigned, the stock went straight up.
