The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

Yeah - I forgot that the trader mentioned Mondays being down days.

Einhorn and Tepper… Hmmm

Wow - too really sharp guys getting gutted on aapl unless they’ve sold their positions. Its a big problem for them to unload so many shares. I don’t know if they can buy protection particularly easy such as puts like us small guys?

I think these guys hold positions for a long time. I can’t remember whether it was Einhorn or Chanos who was short some company for years and getting crushed until it finally turned around in his favor. I could never have such patience.

These big guys can not maneuver like us.

They get shows though. They see some blocks of stock for sale or for purchase. At least that is how it used to be…

For these hedge funds to hedge a couple of million shares of
Stock has to have an impact. S… I can’t get off 50 puts sometimes. Lol

That is why what Ackman did in hlf makes no sense. How do you buy 20 percent of s stock without running it up?

stock

I have various people asking me about AAPL stock and what I think. I usually respond that I haven’t been watching AAPL and have been in GOOG. I guess that AAPL is yesterday’s news for me.

Maybe they will eventually join you in goog…

Nobody shows any interest in GOOG. I mention it and get nothing in response. I’m surprised those huge hedge funds aren’t in GOOG. Though if they were, the price would probably be a lot higher.

Speaking of tech companies, I noticed that Microsoft has Microsoft Office Web available for free (I think that you get 7 GB of storage). I may move my spreadsheets from Google Docs to Microsoft Office Web. I’m trying to not put all of my eggs in one web vendor’s basket. Reviews have Microsoft Office Web as being far better than Google Docs which I’ve used for many years. I use Evernote for taking text notes. I’ll keep using Google for calendar and mail as I haven’t found anything better.

I am not really following the hedge funds in goog. If they are not there, it is bullish for goog.

I don’t like when hedge funds are crowded in a stock. They are going to be sellers. That bugs me with aig. That is the number 1 owned stock my hedge funds replacing aapl.

These hedge funds got In during the last secondary or two in aig. They got in at good prices, but…they are already in the stock.

I have one button on my screen that they don’t have:

Sell All Shares at Market.

Yeah… You do.

Sold naked puts on JCP for july at 17 strike. My break even is about $14. I can live with buying the stock at that price. CEO johnson may get fired soon but based on what I have seen at my local JCP store, he is a genius.

I don’t know - it looks to me that goog is popular with hedge funds and its talked about all the time on cnbc

What were the at the money puts selling for in jcp before the earnings came out?

If The stock was 21 where were the mar 21 puts?

Where were the apr 21 puts?

Look at the apr 16 and 17 puts in jcp…

I am long 7 of those 20 stocks most held by hedge funds. Maybe I should be worried.

Does Apple count quarters differently? Were other companies also affected?

When it comes to Apple, nothing makes sense. If you look at the way Apple stocks behave only, you would think bankrupcy is imminent. Among large cap companies, HP is the only company with lower P/E than Apple, HP 7, Apple 9. On the other hand, people don’t seem to worry about the sequester.

“Korean and Japanese firms are already swarming into South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. What the Boston Consulting Group calls a “reallocation of global manufacturing” is shifting production away from expensive East Asia and Europe and toward these lower-cost locales. The arrival of auto, steel and petrochemical plants—and, increasingly, the aerospace industry—reflects a critical shift for the Southeast, which historically depended on lower-wage industries such as textiles and furniture.”

I suppose this could have gone in the real estate thread but I watch this one more closely. It feels like there’s something underpinning economic growth in the US, slow as it may be and maybe this is one of those things that you don’t hear much about.

It looks like things are doing better in NH. Real Estate transfer taxes are up 16% and tourism has improved (meals and hotel tax receipts are up).

That is a postive story for Amercans, BCEagle91.

I was driving on hwy 5 yesterday, a Saturday. Hwy 5 links Nor Cal and So Cal. I could not believe how many big trucks were on the road.

Has to be a good sign. Cal’s economy is improving…

Now there are zero places for sale in the town where I live. Zero.
