The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I think most here know that PBA is my natural gas play though they do pipelines and some shale oil now too (they bought Provident which was my natural gas play). There’s CHK which has done really well the last two months despite their problems in the corporate boardroom. My other go-to stocks are HGT and SJT and sometimes APA though APA is oil services and natural gas.

BTW, HGT’s yield is 10%. I don’t know how sustainable that is because I haven’t followed the company in several years. I’m a bit more inclined to go with Canadian companies because of the political rhetoric about getting money out of the energy companies for various purposes that’s so common here.

I was told effectively if I buy the 50 calls for 45, I need only have 45. If I buy the stock for 95, I need 95. At expiration, if the 50 calls are in the money by 1 cent, they will buy the stock at 50 if I have the money in the account. If not, the calls will be sold.

Re Cyprus, tomorrow a holiday, green Monday, start of lent. The vote may change some things tomorrow, under 25,000, 3%, 10% over 100,000, and a higher % on larger accounts. New president and multiple parties. Some folks with large accounts have been receiving high interest. The Cypriots may take this haircut as they are calling it. Tomorrow will be interesting and yes many Russian investors.

Doct, I know. I was told the same. That is probably the way it is for customers. I understand you.

Overseas, Tomorrow should be fun. A little excitement is good. A little…

I think there are only about a million people in Cyprus. The reality is that it should be irrelevant what happens in Cyprus.

Cypriots have learned over centuries to duck and they may come out o.k. They also have natural gas reserves off the coast with Noble Energy in charge. Russians are interested in them. Wheeling and dealing going on.

It wouldn’t be nothing if you had money in the bank; we are all intricately connected in this business.

So overseas, what do you see happening?

"Re Cyprus, tomorrow a holiday, green Monday, start of lent. "

Green Monday??? It’s clean Monday , the beginning of Orthodox Lent. Today was the first day I had ever heard the use of that term when I went to church for my father’s 1 year memorial.

If I recall correctly, in Mary Poppins the boy’s nickel started the bank run. :)

Doct, found this. You don’t have to spend time on it. Same as Schwab says.

That rule should be changed because long stock long puts is a call.

I have money in the bank and the bank is paying me nothing as a return as if this is the new normal. We’re getting robbed so that the banks can make more. But nobody in the US seems to care.

Tomorrow we’re going to here the cnbc folks like Maria Bartiromo asking gurus if this is the start of the pullback that everybody is waiting for - how exciting!

Wow. Had no idea you had money in the bank. That sucks. Sorry. Maybe the vote won’t go thru.

Money in the bank in Cyprus – why??

People with accounts below the insurance limits should not be taxed.

The authorities are saying the insurance can be ignored because the banks aren’t closing, but that is a dodge.

Americans don’t care because they aren’t affected. If Americans are affected, they will care. Bernanke didn’t spend trillions of dollars propping up the financial system and the banks, and billions so bankers can have their bonuses, just to let Cyprus take us down.

I have money in the bank in the US - which is paying me nothing.

BTW, If I did have money in Cyprus, I probably wouldn’t worry about it that much. I’ve had many years of dealing with currency ups and downs (fortunately more up than down) over the decades.

Ok. Then we are in the same boat. Lots of us.

Futures are down 1 percent.

Big deal…
