Took profits on AAPL. Should have taken them a bit sooner today but I had someone come in to talk about their graduating son and the job situation and the chat took a lot longer than expected. Happy with my profits though.

We broke the shorter uptrend line and I suspect that we’re going into some kind of Elliott Wave formation. I tried to learn EW a long time ago. It would have been more effort than I was willing to expend at the time so I just get out instead of figuring out the waves. There are some aspects of technical analysis that I’d like to learn but the costs are high.

I wouldn’t worry about the Elliott wave too much. The leaning proponent of the Elliiott wave has thought the Dow was going to 500 for over 20 years. But if you want to spend the time…

I sold a few more puts in aapl but I am going to stop now. I want to see if aapl goes below the downtrend line it broke last week.

Are the banks in cyprus opening tomorrow?

Tomorrow is up about 66 percent of the time. The rally averages .3 to . 4 percent.

yes the banks are supposedly opening. I sold out of aapl with not too big of a loss as I had a relatively small position.

Ok… So is that bullish or bearish?

Speaking of elliot wave theory, where is Prechter these days - he hasn’t been trodded out to rally the bears.

He needs to buy more paper so he can draw those downward waves. You need a lot of paper with the Dow up here and your target is 500.

I think that the guy that runs EWI and the concept of Elliott Waves is different. There is the theory and then the interpretation of that theory and I think that there is disagreement. His job is to sell investment advice and he needs to write stuff to get people interested and keep people interested. My understanding on EWaves is that it’s like other patterns - it’s more of a decision tree - if it takes this path, then you have these two outcomes and you trade correspondingly. So you have use the theory in an unbiased way. I don’t think that EWI does that.

I checked on filing to get the Canadian Tax withholding back - I can’t do it - it’s really a tax - even though they call it withholding - at least for non-residents.

Can you claim a credit for the tax in the US?
I pay both Illinois and Caloformia state tax, but I get to take a tax credit in Cal that equals the
Ill tax.

I’m not aware of a domestic tax credit here. You need the 1099 to state that you have foreign taxes withheld and I don’t think that Ill or Cal would cut it. I think that the best you can do is the deduction for state taxes.

BTW, you can deduct your foreign taxes paid too and I don’t think that there’s a limit for that but you obviously do better taking them as a credit than a deduction.

Form 1116?

Yup. Wonderful stuff.

Nice…

dstark, that article about your employer losing you $100k in savings is a bit misleading.

They wouldn’t have to work an extra five or six years because at the end of 40 years they’d be earning about $180,000 a year (assuming their 3% income growth rate).

Whatever…you do lose money if you pay more in fees.

I agree, but it should be more than a little frustrating when an article on personal finance bungles up some fairly basic math. ;)

:)…

Well I sold aapl today and a fellow worker bought it today. I’m concerned as he is almost always correct on his trades.

You can both be right.
