The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

If you like noise, Doug Kass on twitter: “Gnome is hearing rumors that somne short stories might be presented at Ira Sohn conference which include CRM YELP GMCR LULU LNKD and KORS.”

We should hang him by the toe. Didn’t he twit a month or two ago something about aapl driving share prices up? He sold his aapl shares when it was up. Needlessly to say, the share price crashed down the next day.

I bought the goog 6/22 820 - 910 calls for 50.00. Unfortunately I bought this high, fortunately its up a bit. I plan on selling week goog weekly puts.

Ok good luck doct.

Pba…nice BCEagle91.

I guess I don’t have to worry about tesla crashing right now. The shorts are so buried…

I said a couple of weeks ago I may not be able to post as much. Started today. Won’t last long. Not as long as I thought. Several days maybe. I will still try to get some posts out.

If the stock market keeps rising .5% a day… the market will be up another 10 percent in no time…

Yeah, Tesla must have had some nice earnings. I picked up a little Tiffany today. The folks on the engagement ring thread have me thinking that it’s time to pick up a trinket or two.

I saw that Fannie Mae is reporting a $59B profit and thus under the bailout terms is going to make a $59B dividend payout. The Feds have made $95B in cash dividends in 5 years. Because this investment/bailout has turned into a windfall, people are starting to think the junior preferred shares will be allowed to get paid. The E shares, if the dividend is restored, would yield about 33% at current pricing.

In a world where people are chasing yield through picking up subprime bonds super cheap in the hopes they continue to pay …

(I realized I wasn’t clear. The $59B is paid to Treasury. Junior preferred share dividends were suspended in 2008.)

What is the symbol for the FNMA E shares? I see the symbol for several preferreds but not for E.

There is no mechanism set up to pay anything to the preferred e. There are owners of preferred e that are lobbying.

Exactly. It’s a very risky bet for money that can be thrown away, like buying a lottery ticket. If it pays …

I feel like I’m living in an alternate universe when things like this which are known for eons moves the market: [U.S</a>. Stocks Fall as Investors Weigh Plosser Comments - Bloomberg](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

Did Plosser’s comments really move the market?

Plosser is part of a small minority in the fed. Plosser can say what he wants, but he doesn’t have the votes. It is probably a good idea to have a few hawks in the fed.

A 20 point drop in the dow? Stocks closing on the bids instead of the offers is worth a few points. Lol

20 points is nothing. Who gives a …?

Tomorrow is a new day.

Dia is already up half the loss of today in the after market.

Writers have to fill space but we don’t have to pay attention.

I see that tsla wrecked some damage today on short sellers. Pretty good damage. Amd to think, you have to pay to be short.

I sold a few more intc puts. I don’t want that stock up… darn it. Well either the puts go out worthless and I make money or I own the stock. I guess I will know tomorrow.

To go back to tsla, I enjoyed trading the tsla puts… Because they were priced high. Fun is over there… More risk now for put sellers…

28 million shares traded today. Must have been plenty of short covering. I guess the question is were new shorts added today?

One day this week spy traded 66 million shares. I think that is the lowest volume in spy that isn’t holiday related in several years.

One day qe is going to be over. Volatilty is going to rise and put selling is going to become more dangerous. Owning stocks is going to become more dangerous.

Warren Buffett said this week that interest rates matter. He is right.

The improvement in first-time unemployment claims is impressive. The question, of course, is whether that’s due to people dropping out of the workforce or if companies are doing fewer layoffs and more hiring? I look forward to see how new graduates do finding work in the next few months. If we get first-time claims around the 200K area, then I think that we’re going to have to be careful on signs that QE may end.

I think you are right.

I own dxj. The dollar yen trade really moved from the open. This type of move is making me nervous. I did buy some more aapl - oct 19 425 - 500 call spreads for 35.35. I’m greedy when others are greedy, not a recipe for success.

Dxj is a big winner.

We will see on aapl…

Aapl is going to have new products someday…

I think this morning, the yen was trading at around 98.71 and it closed at 100.71 or so. Right now its at 101.08. The fast money crew was pointing out an interesting divergence. The market has been correlated with a weakening yen, today it went the opposite way. I wonder if this means anything? Everybody is in on this yen trade so it may be time to go long on the yen.

I have this feeling that dxj is going to do well for years…

The problem with trading shows is they are trading shows. :)

If you are getting antsy…you can always sell part of your position and keep the rest for years.

Many times I sell part of my positions and keep the rest for many many years.

Edit…Or you can keep dxj and find a long yen etf that you can trade in and out of.

You could be right but I like what that the little bow tie guy on the motorcycle says a lot: " when everybody is on one side of the boat, I like to go on the opposite side"

Well…I talk longer term than the guys on the trading shows…

You should always do what you want.

If you disagree with what I say, that is fine. I don’t know for sure.

If you think you should take the other side, you should.
