BCEagle91, interesting info on Boston. The population drop… The partial rebound, the amount of people per household, crime… All interesting.

Sorry to bud in, But I thought RE has its own thread…

What about Gold/Silver? Old Ladies in China seems think it is under valued and they bought tons of it… Will that return to 1800 level? Ever?

This thread goes where the posters want the thread to go…

Will gold ever hit $1800 an ounce?

Sure…

Huge POMO today–the largest for June, $4.75 - $5.75 billion. I take a contrarian view on gold. I see it going down to 1300. But that’s just my opinion looking at the charts. Anything can change. There’s a supermoon on the 23rd. That may be a turn date for the metals/miners to head higher. Or it may just be a terrific night to take pictures and a romantic stroll on the beach. You can trade the range for the miners (AEM, GG).

I showed the article to my wife this morning and she was quite interested in it.

One of the really big problems that Boston faces (San Francisco has the same problem according to my sisters that live out there) is the public schools. In Boston, there was busing which drove a lot of families out to the suburbs. Many Irish Roman Catholic parents sent their kids to parochial schools but growing financial problems and the eventual priest scandals made that option a lot harder. I think that it can be interesting living in the city after college but you may wind up in panic mode (or a prospective landlord) if you get married and have kids when the market is down. I think that Brookline is an attractive place in Boston for younger couples because they have very good schools and it is practically Boston.

Your sisters are right of course.

I find it interesting that there is a housing shortage in SF and at the same time there are areas of the city that are run down. I was reading somewhere that $5 billion of new housing was going to be built. Sounds like a lot to me at first, but then I realize that may be just 5,000 or so units. That is nothing.

I don’t know why the south of market is not nicer. The area is improving slowly.

When I was growing up, Hayes, the Fillmore, 3rd st, you did not go into those areas. Parts of 3rd st are still sketchy I think, but these areas overall have really shot up.

When I walk in the northern Fillmore district, I cant believe how nice it is.

I dont have the numbers but the average size of households must have plummeted over the decades.

During one of the Super Bowls there was a flyover of SF. The viewers could see rows snd rows of housing. One of the announcers asked, “Does everybody live in a house in SF?”

The new housing is condos and has been that way for decades.

I like the above sites.

Took small losses on GE, INTC, NKE, small gain on SUNE. I’m getting a little impatient.

What is your thinking? Why are you impatient?

I’m doing better in the stuff that I’m more familiar with and it’s easier to keep an eye on things with fewer stocks with bigger positions.

I’m not crazy about sideways chop either - it’s not pushing me to bail or bulk up but it’s just a bit more comfortable with a few positions.

BTW, I have a high level of confidence in GE, INTC and NKE as investments and I think that the SUNE trade will be a winner too. But there are some times when I like a few sidebars and some times when I like a few more distractions.

That big dividend check on Saturday may have had something to do with it too.

"I’m not crazy about sideways chop either - it’s not pushing me to bail or bulk up but it’s just a bit more comfortable with a few positions.

It is interesting you mention sideways chop. Razorsharp has been posting IBD’s take on the market and it seems like IBD has a different take every day or two. If traders are trading the chop they can slowly chop up their stake. A trader loses 1 percent 5 times and he is going to need to make close to 5 percent to breakeven. Sometimes the market doesn’t move 5 percent in one direction for awhile.

BTW, I have a high level of confidence in GE, INTC and NKE as investments and I think that the SUNE trade will be a winner too. But there are some times when I like a few sidebars and some times when I like a few more distractions.

:)

I understand.

Sometimes I want to play and sometimes I don’t.

You have trending markets and sideways markets and on average, markets trend more than they go sideways. So yes, you can get repeatedly stopped out with small losses using a trend approach in a sideways market or you can just step aside until the trend asserts.

Shorter-term traders can do well in the sideways market. I find going back and forth between time frames to be difficult unless I just want a quick fling.

I had a look around on Craigslist jobs today. I’m pretty impressed with the quantity and categorization of jobs there. I think that it’s better than Dice, Indeed.com and Monster.

Craigslist help-wanted index via city for the past week would make for an interesting economic index.

During my recent job search, I found Indeed.com to be better then Craigslist.

I didn’t use Dice or Monster at all. Monster in particular is a shell of its former self.

I read an article that Intel was going to do a die-packaging thing with what they call eDRAM. The article talked about stuffing 128 MB of level 4 cache eDRAM in the chip package. Normally the CPU has to go through a bus to get to system RAM and that can cause some contention for integrated graphics. Discrete graphics cards usually come with their own Video RAM so that you don’t have to share system memory though I believe that some cards allow you to use both VRAM and system memory.

The question is will Intel put a GB or more of this high-speed access memory on the CPU chip? It would allow Intel to put their 22 nm fabs to work while they are making CPUs on 14 nm. It’s likely something that nobody else can easily do.

"“We were told to lie to customers,” said Simone Gordon, who worked in the bank’s loss mitigation department until February 2012. “Site leaders regularly told us that the more we delayed the HAMP [loan] modification process, the more fees Bank of America would collect.” "

Well, it was kind of obvious that this was happening. Now we have witness testimony about it. BAC is vigorously defending the accusations and says that there are factual inaccuracies with the testimony. This should be fun to watch. Not fun for the homeowners that suffered through this though.

No surprise here. I try to be careful not to accept anecdotes as evidence, but I was just hearing way too many stories about the Bank (usually the Bank of America) losing applications or documents that had already been submitted. After a while it just got so routine it became obvious that it was not accidental or even random but it was a pattern.

I guess I should have been patient. GE making new highs, NKE doing okay, SUNE doing okay. INTC doing great.

I know E3 was last week, but one of my friends is an employee at a Gamestop. He said they currently have over 80 preorders for the PS4 and 6 for the Xbox One. Microsoft’s response to their general situation is, “Consumers don’t know what they want in a gaming system, just buy what we’re selling and you’ll agree.” Consumers seem to be saying $100 cheaper for better hardware and less DRM is what they actually want.

I don’t remember what percentage of both Sony and Microsoft’s profits come from their gaming divisions, but with hardly any console exclusives happening any more, there’s less and less reason to buy both devices for a console generation.
