The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I know this sounds funny but I dont want VZ to rise… I am more a buyer than a seller.

I have friends that own dis and they are very happy.

Good luck in amzn .

Ok, so I closed out my APPL position in my trading account. I was too greedy. Mistake learned. I was up 20% in less than 2 days, I didn’t sold, I was hoping for at least 60%. Guess what, I closed the position out for 5% in 20 days. Next time, the minute I made money I should have sold, not waiting this long for peanut gain.

Long calls or short puts ?

My short puts in aapl expired worthless.

I am down a couple of thousand in my at&t trade…the one where I was trying to make $200. :)

Havent decided what I am going to do with at&t.

Long calls. Short puts in another account.

Ok…5 percent in 20 days isnt that bad.

I just bought tax free munis that yield 3.9% a year and I am locked in for 14 years. I dont like these yields.

That is what my husband every time I made some money. A dollar made is a dollar gained but I’m risk taker and want it to pay off to worth my time trading.

Locked in for 14-years, are you serious? Are you risk averse?

I would say yes. I am risk averse with moments of risk taking.

I was not always risk averse. :)

I did sell 100 puts for. .02. There was risk. :)

If you make 6 percent a year in stocks and your tax rate is 33 percent… You are making 4 percent after tax. Very similar number to my return.

Obviously, stocks have more potential than bonds and bonds come with their own risks.

Hopefully I will make more than 6%. I’m hoping ten times that on a small amount. I’m practicing for this year.
Anyway was listening to cnbc and what the whales(hedge fund guys) are reporting on their holdings. Einhorn is reducing shares on APPL and MU, no wonder the stocks were hovering, not tanking. Buffet is buying more VZ and GM. Paulson dumped GM. Interesting these two guys should swap.
Mad money guy gave tons of ideas to short. I’m my own hedge fund. :D

I cant believe you make money with the CNBC guys.

We’ll he gave me lots of ideas and I do make tons of money, not all from his recommendations, but I watched the stocks for a long time before purchasing or shorting.
I get ideas from people calling into the show too.

Whatever works. :)

I believe EURCHF should go up soon. It’s at just above 1.21 right now. The bank of Switzerland has set a price floor of 1.2 and it seems they will aggressively defend it, so if it goes much further down there should be a surge upward.

Closed out my trade on LOCO made 8% for 10 days. This was a hard one to trade, I left a lot on the table due to the fact that I could borrow the stock to short. So the next best thing I did was buying puts but the problem is there was no trade on the put market when I want to close it. Yesterday it was down but I couldn’t close it. Today, I finally so the bid and ask higher than what I paid so I reluctantly put in a close order. Luckily, it was more than the bid, I made money.
I also closed my trade on KING, made a pittance, 1% for 2 days.
I had to close out all my trades because I’m going to focus on doing my hardscape, I won’t be able to babysit these trades.

I traded LOCO as well. When there were shares to short, it would go down. When no shares were available, it would go up slightly. I hope the stock goes up a bit more so I can short it again. It is so over valued it is ridiculous.

Interesting I was shorting LOCO when it was down. CNBC gave me so many stocks to short, there are at least 200+ in my watch list.

Green Mountain Keurig Coffee(GMCR) is up about 10%, it proves that those hedge fund managers(Einhorn) are sometime just plain wrong.
I made money shorting YOKU and XOM. I closed out my trades quickly on this account, not holding over the weekend.

Who do you use for options and how much are your commisions? I pay something like $9 + $1 per contract with Shwab, so large trades = large commisions, 100 puts would cost me over $100!!

That was my net number…
$9 + .77… if I sell…slightly less if I buy…

If you regularly trade options and obviously know what you are doing, why not use one of the low commission brokerages like OptionsHouse? (5 for $5, or $8.95 + .15)? Or are those outfits slow on execution?

I dont know the quality of exectution with other brokerage firms.

It is really inertia. I have been with Schwab almost from the beginning.

$8.95 +.15 is very attractive. There are exercise and assignment costs and stock execution costs. I dont know how options house bookkeeping is. I have never looked at options house.
