The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

Performersmom…
You did ask great questions…

I guess they are going to be answered in the future.

I did not have a great week…but it wasn’t that bad…

I am in cash.

The worst thing for thing for for me is that yields collapsed. I am assuming yields collapsed in the muni and corporate market too…1 am not even sure about that.

I did not really want to buy intc at 28…but it is a solid company…I will work out of it.
It was a bad strategy on my part. I am sure I will do it again. :)

The NYSE is a joke…they are building a new colocation center…and then we will see.

Peformersmom…

You are a buyer…maybe the drop in stocks is good for you?

Now stocks are yielding a little more than a month ago.

I don’t think yields of 3 percent offer much protection on the downside though.

A stock is $30 and the div is .90 so you get a 3 percent yield…

If the stock dropped to 27… You would have a 3.3 percent yield…

It is not like a $30 stock can’t drop 10 percent.

I don’t see low yields protecting investors much.

This low yielding world has plenty of downsides.

Sucks…actually.

Well, dstark, I am not under the pressure you are to make money all the time on a ST basis. I just look for LT buying or selling opportunities when the markets move a lot. And try to have LT strategies in place about asset allocation, that do need to be adjusted based on changes in valuations and fundamentals and relative opportunities.
For a ST trader, I would see yield as a more factor in the momentum of what people are buying or selling at the time for any number of reasons.

Thanks BCE- I forgot about Whole Foods. Is Trader Joe’s still privately held??? I have a wierd recollection of some huge European grocery conglomerate buying TJ’s… maybe just in a dream. I would play it only if it were independent, I think.

It appears that Trader Joes is privately held.

I would like it as a pure play too.

12,000 before 13,500

Zuck just got married.

$indu could add AAPL to get to 13,500.

So folks, what’s the plan for tomorrow and the rest of the week - “hold em or fold em?” maybe buy something that has gotten unfairly crushed with the rest of the market? Any ideas?

http://stockcharts.com/public/3828047/tenpp

Ok…I like those charts…

Which way are we going BCEagle91?

I see very bullish and very bearish indicators.

I’d wait for support to get back in.

We are going to give up almost all of 2012’s gains then…

That will really get the public excited about stocks. :)

I’m on stockcharts all the time - I’ve never seen this before.

Thanks for sharing that link, BCE. Very helpful. Looks like next week’s direction is crucial- will roll over in a down market, or will form a base if we stay the same or rise…

Defensives and growth stocks look the best on that service.
(I am ignoring the positive rating for Euro stocks.)

The fundamental picture stinks right now. The three big issues:

Jobs (obvious)

Europe (Mauldin has a nice piece on this this weekend)

Budget/Debt Ceiling

We don’t have obvious near-term solutions to these problems.

There are some sounds out of the G8 about growth policies but I’ll believe them when I see them. The Fed is surprisingly quiet right now.

Another year’s gains gone…

At least comparison’s going forward will be easier.

We are going to read about various funds and their great perfromances over the last 3 and 5 years…as the really bad years occured earlier…

I am a little tired of Mauldin…I guess I can read his latest.

I wonder what major indicators besides the trend and the fear built in the market about europe, folks are talking about. Every technical indicator shows we’re oversold but of course there’s nothing to say that we can’t become more oversold.

The game is rigged, so why play?.. FB proves that…SOOOOO many shares available to retail, investors, the backing by underwriters ,supporting 38, prevented an opening day haircut for retail investors…Uncle Ben implicitly backing the market, though many headwinds exist…

The game is rigged, but there is an upside bias…

I know it is hard to see the upward bias this last decade or so…

The demand for facebook, while incredibly large, was overstated.

FB is not the whole market.

Where do you think we should be putiing our money in qdogpa, if not the stock market?

Use the Kelly criteria and bet on horses!

Doct, i don’t know that game.
