The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

Beats me…

Vrtx was down 11 points today when I sold it. I had very little left…but I am tired of that roller coaster.

I am going to clean up my portfolio over the next month or two (maybe less). I have some crap in my portfolio and I can’t remember why I own some of these stocks.

I don’t have a good read on the economy right now. I hear a lot of mixed messages.
I did hear that many companies are setting up shop in Mexico. Cheap
labor. Easier to pollute.
On the plus side…illegal immigration is declining.

I am disappointed with how my stocks did today. I thought they would do better when the market rallied back.

And… I am shocked that Nadal lost.

We have engineers in Mexico right now, quite far away from the violent areas. It appears that the upper-middle class can still get good educations for their kids down there.

The strong stocks are weakening and that is a really, really bad sign.

Nadal lost? I’m watching Karlovic - Murray right now on the replace with Murray up a set - I expect Murray to win but Karlovic doesn’t go easy. I’ll have to watch the Nadal match later on.

BTW, I was working on my FBAR this afternoon when another engineer came into my office to chat. I got off with only half an hour of lost time. Got it to the post office and it will be in their hands one day early. So that’s one fewer thing to worry about. I looked at our balances and I am actually very pleased with our offshore returns compared to earning nothing in the US.

Yeah…Nadal lost. I am shocked.

I dislike that feeling of having to do paperwork and there is a deadline…and the deadline is fast approaching…so that’s nice you got your work done with a day to spare.

The overseas stuff is a weakness for me. Thst is great that you are able to get a better return overseas than the zero returns here.

Wondering if Nadal partied too hard after the Spain win last night, or if he secretly wanted to lost so he can watch the next match live.

On the other hand, he looked pretty ticked off by his loss. I used to be a big fan, but he seems to be getting a bit more tantrummy the last year or so. Or maybe I just transferred by allegiance to Djokovic because he was such a sweetheart when my brother and I were lucky enough to be sitting waiting for another match on court 14 on day 2 of Wimbledon and he unexpectedly showed up to practice. He was so entertaining and joked around with the crowd. (the match we were waiting for was Kvitova, so both players we saw on that court went on to win Wimbledon)

OK, back to investment stuff - my stocks were awful today. One took a real nosedive - largely because they announced a huge new stock issue - that has happened to me a few times lately. The week has been going so well till today :(

Just received email on the E-Filing for the FBAR. I found out about it this afternoon and applied for an account but their site says that it can take 5-7 days so I did the paper thing to the post office. Next year though - E-Filing!

BTW, it wasn’t a huge amount of work - I just had to get a variety of information from various places and had to get my wife to look through her statements.

BTW, I hear that they have some great interest rates in Spain and Italy.

ESPN doesn’t have the Nadal match on its archives yet - I’ll look for it later tonight or tomorrow.

Djokovic looked very good yesterday. Fed’s looking great too. It would be nice if Fed got just one more …

I bought FAS today and it promptly went down two dollars per share. I started crying. It finished up about two dollars from where i bought it. Obviously, my tears influence the market. Oh, the power I have.

Talked to a guy yesterday because I wanted to find out what his investment advice cost. He charges his smaller clients $1000 per month per futures contract. Obviously, I am not his client, but I am glad someone makes that kind of money.

“BTW, I hear that they have some great interest rates in Spain and Italy.”

Lol…

I don’t know if you get the tennis channel…but the tennis channel runs highlights and parts of matches all day long.

Razorsharp…
I think there is a lot of crying these days.

At around 11 p.m. EST, the S&P jumped about 15 points. Wonder why?

Razorsharp…you should have a good day tomorrow…

Wow… dstark, you’ve been playing with biotechs? You gotta have nerves of steel for that.

BunsenBurner…I thought you play with biotechs?

I am not trading them…although, I used to trade them. I was an option market maker in a few of them.

I own several biotechs… not as many as I used to own.

I owned VRTX for a long time.

I am getting old I guess. I am getting tired of owning the speculative, volatile issues. I am slowly going to change my portfolio. I am going to end up with a portfolio more conservative than BCEagle91’s. :)

Dstark, I rarely trade, however, I own a couple “rollercoasters”.
I’m getting old for them, alas.

Rollercoasters? I guess you have nerves of steel. :)

Rally ON on semi-news…Mr Market is aching to go higher, and likley will…But in less then 2 weeks, these gains will be gone…

This is the busiest the markets have been for awhile…

I guess the gasoline price drop is over…

Oil futures prices are up $4.

The vix broke 18.

Option premiums are low and not as interesting to sell…

ISM looked good. ;)

Lol…
