Congrats to everyone named a Johnson finalist! I am a freshman Johnson Scholar at W&L. Last year around this time I was worried that the Johnson competition would be all work and no play; but thankfully I was proven wrong. My host made sure that I had a good time. He took me to some pretty sick parties two nights in a row. Admissions will warn you, however, that partying could warrant disqualification from the scholarship. They say this because two years ago, a finalist lost control and had to be taken to the hospital. I was hesitant to go out - but I did anyway. The social scene at W&L is second to none, and I highly recommend experiencing it. Just be careful and don’t do anything too stupid. Frats like to make sure that you have a good time, and you definitely will. However, make sure that you don’t let a nasty hangover prevent you from getting the scholarship; the interviews are intense and require mental sharpness. I will be hosting a Johnson, and so will a bunch of my buddies. If you are stuck with a lame host and and wanna have fun, just facebook me: Michael Novack. If you have any general question also, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m looking forward to seeing the bright group of people that Admissions has picked.

thanks for the intel man!

Not a single word in the last 6 days! Wow. Heavy Competition!

Best of luck to each and every candidate, sincerely. Keep the stress level down, and really enjoy the few days. Regardless of the outcome, you will learn a lot about the school, and a lot about yourself!

i’m not really worried about getting the scholarship, my EFC is so low that I would get close to a full ride if they live up to their “meet 100% of demonstrated need” policy

Miami:
In your acceptance pack will be a seperate envelope regarding Johnson. They will come no later than April 1.

Waiting sucks.

Okay, that’s it. Good luck guys!

in the background, a faint hammering noise of tent poles being pounded into unforgiving concrete next to the mailbox

And so, the last bit of waiting begins, eh? It’s going to be a long few days…

A friend who lives in Virginia texted me and said he did not get the Johnson, maybe the notifications are in the mail. I assumed he found out by mail-he is so upset, I didn’t ask any details :(

@2010emily: They went out into the mail yesterday. Check out the admissions blog, it has a lot of info. I’m praying I get it tomorrow so that I don’t have to wait till Monday after work. I feel sorry for your friend : (

South Florida. The mail was two hours later but the finalist letter came in 2 days so I was hoping this one did too. and it did!

I am a Johnson Scholar too!! sooooo pumped!

Congratulations to both 2010 emily and cinhype29. Are you both going to accept or still waiting to see what other offers?

I am sooo torn, waiting to hear from a couple ivies, but I LOVE W&L. I got the CURB scholarship at Vandy, waiting to hear from USC-Cali about pres./trustee, and got 30K to Rice. This is going to be the most difficult decision ever. AHHHHH!!!
