The Laggards And Last

It’s a shame that UofM’s Admissions Office can’t live up to the lofty standard that the University has established for itself (“The Leaders And Best”).

Duke, Georgetown, USC, Rice, Northwestern, etc. all weighed in with their decisions before April 1st.

But those who have been deferred at Michigan still sit and wait. And wait. Essentially, they have been put on hold with elevator music and no customer service back-up for several months. And so they continue to wait.

In Admissions, UofM is not a not leader, they are a laggard.

And they are not the best, they are the last.

My spouse - a proud UofM Law grad - is livid. This is not the Michigan way.

Somebody needs to evaluate the current process and make changes.

Go Blue.

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

“this is not the Michigan way”…

Actually, unfortunately, it has been this way for a number of years…

Hopefer, I’m sure you realize that Michigan does not REPRESENT that it gives decisions by April 1st.

That said, I feel that they should perhaps waitlist or reject everyone left on deferral on April 1st, and then offer a second round of admits off the waitlist April 15th - 22nd once they have a better bead on their yield/on the ivy-melt etc.

The outcome would be precisely the same for students, IMHO, but it might afford some the opportunity to move on. The School of Music tends to waitlist in that way, and it seems to work fine.

Hopefer, I agree 100% with you. Michigan’s admissions office must change to fit the times. They should discontinue rolling admissions, revert back to all EA applicants on the same day (before December 20) and revert back to all RD/deferred applicants on the same day before April 1. The current process is obsolete and is hurting the university.

I would hope someone in admissions would be reading CC once in a while.

Hey, Alexandre, go tell 'em!
Maybe they’ll listen to you ;)
