Well, I believe this woman, but she does have some bad stuff in her past so she will be discredited in the court of public opinion.
Anyone remember Senator Bob Packwood? He was the first important person to be accused, and he did resign after being censured. I remember being in a meeting with my male boss and a male vendor and having the vendor laugh about all these women who of course couldn’t be believed. I was furious at the time.
Maybe Alabama will elect a Democrat for Senate. If only.
For Moore’s base, “All the women are lying” has proven to be a very solid rejoinder. I don’t think he’ll be hurt in the slightest with his supporters.
It seems so quaint to have a politician resign for this now… It seems to be impacting businesses still, but politicians… not so much.
At least one Alabama GOP official has said on record that even if hard evidence of sexual abuse emerges, he’ll consider voting for Moore. In what universe is this okay?
In the universe that the Alabama GOP official has sexual skeletons in his own closet. Honestly, would you trust your kids to any of these Moore defenders?
Remember the Alabama governor who recently resigned? There was audio recording of his talking dirty to his mistress. But they’re all holier than thou.
What Moore is alleged to have done to the woman when she was 14 is very similar to what a relative did to me when I was 14. It sickens me to think that so many people think that this type of behavior is acceptable.

That approach is the one my mother took. Since my cousin only raped me and not my sisters she is still on close terms with him. “He was disturbed at the time”, so there is nothing to forgive.
People can justify anything to preserve a relationship or a political pal.

I am NOT saying that. However, some of the posts in this thread imply that there are multiple accusers. There is only one person who was underage at the time the conduct alleged occurred.

It sounds rather “icky”, however…I’m pretty sure my dad was dating and soon afterwards married my Mom when she was 18 and he was 30, 58 years ago or so. I don’t think she magically matured the day she turned 18, and I guarantee you she was more mature than him. My grandfather was maybe 25 years older than my grandmother, at least. May sound icky, but they all had long term marriages and no others. Look at the president of France and his wife. Met her in high school when she was his drama teacher, 25 years older than him. If it’s consensual and legal, then it’s really none of anyone’s business.
I don’t know anything about Moore and I’m not a supporter, but the timing of this sure sounds suspicious. A month before the election. I think most politicians are creeps, and Moore might easily be another, but unless there is proof, how do you show this isn’t 100% politically motivated?
That he would date a 16-year-old when he was in his thirties, and befriend another 14-year-old before beginning a relationship two years later, and coach a teenage girls’ soccer team, to me gives credence to the story about sexual conduct with the 14-year-old. He was in his thirties and working to surround himself with teenage girls.
One person accuses him of child molesting, and others accuse him of doing what child molesters do to find and groom victims. The story hangs together.

Well, it is too late to get him off the ballot. A write in campaign for Strange, his primary opponent, would just split the vote. This will be interesting.

@busdriver11 - if you read the story in the Washington Post, the reporters went to Alabama and heard rumors about his involvement with teenagers and tracked down the women. This was months ago. The main interview with the woman who was 14 is quite compelling. She considered coming forward years ago. They actually verified that her mother had been in court on the day they met Roy Moore, when he offered to sit with the girl on a bench while her mother was busy in a custody hearing.
Ew ew ew ew ew. The New York Times talked to some Moore supporters, including Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler. Ew ew ew. “Single man, early 30s, never been married, dating teenage girls. Never been married and he liked younger girls. According to the Washington Post account he never had sexual intercourse with any of them… [With the 14-year-old] He went a little too far and he stopped.”
Reminder: Moore, who was 32, was alleged to have brought home a 14-year-old girl, removed her clothes down to her underwear, removed his own clothes to his underwear, groped her private parts moved her hand to his private parts. She says he stopped and brought her home after she pulled away from him, so yay, but “a little too far”? These are allegations of at least two sex crimes. Moore would’ve left “a little too far” way behind the minute he enticed that girl into his car.
In the same article, the New York Times notes that Moore was suspiciously lenient to accused sex offenders who appeared in his courtroom. In two different cases, one involving a man who pled guilty to raping an underage girl, and a second involving a man convicted of sexually abusing two underage girls, he opined that the men should’ve been allowed to bring up the victims’ previous sexual or romantic history before the jury.
