No need for politics here. If true, this guy’s actions towards women half his age are downright cringe-worthy and of course hypocritical. Is there some kind of disease I didn’t learn about in grade school or college? Weinstein-itis? Spaceymania? Cosbyism? I guess he’s deserving of less scorn than the others, since he didn’t force himself upon the girls or intimidate them into relations, according to the Washington Post. Not a very high bar, I know.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the age of consent at the time in Alabama was 14. After a few embarrassing legal cases in Georgia a few years back, lawmakers there raised the age of consent and the age when minors are permitted to marry.
Perhaps a big picture question is, what do you do with people, primarily men??, who have a particular sexual kink that should in no way be acted out in real life?
Weinstein, Cosby, Louis CK, Spacey, Moore, Sheen…couldn’t they have found a consenting partner to pretend-play with? Noooo…I guess it is just not as “satisfying” as the “real thing”. Gross. Immoral.

@LakeWashington, Alabama age of consent was 16 then, the same as it is now. According to the woman in question, she did tell him she was only 14 when he offered her alcohol before he made sexual advances.
I just like how he insisted that the 10 commandments should be displayed in public places. I think he needed them there to remind himself to behave. Interesting development – could move the Senate one vote closer to 50-50 depending on how it plays out.
There are a lot of really creepy men (primarily) out there. One of the reasons given in a recent survey of why women don’t want to ride public transport is that women have seen men exposing themselves or masturbating on buses and trains. It’s just gross.

Note that Moore is currently not a judge, having resigned from the Alabama Supreme Court on April 26, 2017. He had previously been suspended on September 30, 2016 for six violations of judicial ethics.
Not to add more worry to the plate here, but I was sexually abused by both my high school and college track coaches (who were both married and over twice my age). Everyone saw them as “great guys,” charming, and legends in their sports communities. My mom had her suspicions, especially of the college coach. But when she asked me about it, I couldn’t bear telling her the truth. I thought I had equal blame! Now decades later I can see how manipulated and groomed I was by these sickos. I’m 54 and just recovering but I’m sure it had a lot to do with why I couldn’t keep my marriage (to a decent man) together.

Someone in high statewide position in Alabama was quoted as saying that Joseph was a lot older than Mary and there wouid have been no Jesus if they hadn’t gotten together, in defending Moore. I’d post article but not sure if it wouid be a TOS violation.
Although, if the accusations are true, he may have squeezed through the loopholes in the Ten Commandments, if the alleged act occurred before he was married (so adultery would not apply), and the accuser presumably was not married at the time (so coveting one’s neighbor’s wife would not apply).
He’s a wacko anyway.
I hope he doesn’t step down. Cuz I do think there are enough decent people in Alabama who at least won’t go to the polls for this guy, and the other guy is within spitting distance.

In the Georgia case it was an out-of-the-mainstream, exceedingly conservative and strict independent Christian church in the Atlanta area. The pastor himself was a senior citizen. He essentially compelled his parishioners to marry-off their adolescent daughters to much older men in the congregation. Of course his own spouse was a also child bride. Incidentally, he also preached that wayward children needed to be beaten. Only then did the State child services department get involved. In another case in Georgia, I recall that a woman whom was accused of seducing a friend of her middle-school son, promptly married the victim to avoid prosecution. Quite legal at the time in Georgia.
I’m not a Moore fan, but…
Only one of the 4 alleged victims was under the age of 16, which is the age of consent in Alabama. I don’t like it, but there is nothing illegal in that state about a man in his early 30s dating someone who is 16-18. Moreover, none of the 4 alleged victims says there was intercourse. At least two of the 4 say their parents permitted them to see Moore.
Now, if the one who was 14 is being truthful, he committed a crime–but the statute of limitations ran out a long time ago. But if there were no 14 year old were involved, this wouldn’t be a story.
The nuns in high school always told us that adultery was any sexual activity outside of marriage - perhaps something was lost in the translation from whatever language I AM WHO AM told Moses.
Of course, the nuns also told us that a girl was her father’s property until she got married, whence she’d become her husband’s property, or until she married Jesus and became a nun. So in this case, instead of coveting his neighbor’s wife, Judge Moore was coveting his neighbor’s "goods "

I’m really enjoying the defenders who are saying, Gosh, he only molested one 14-year-old. Like there’s a special rule that revulsion against child molesters kicks in with the second victim. “Hey Mrs. Jones, sorry Larry molested your young daughter, but she was the only one, so no problem!” In any case, inevitably more victims are going to speak up; they always do.
