Just a thread to talk about the school :)

any questions?

Do you have teams that compete in math/science Olympiads, Intel, Siemen’s competetions? Are there clubs in this area? Any faculty support for these clubs?

Yes yes and yes!
we have a math team

we have a science Olympiad team, one of my friends is a head captain

we had a student compete this year in the a seimen’s competition. more info at [The Lawrenceville School - About: News: News Archive](http://www.lawrenceville.org/about/news/news_detail.asp?back=archive&id=11402)

and there are clubs for almost any interest. If you have an interest that does not have a club, you can start your own! All clubs have faculty support because clubs are required to have a faculty advisor.

From Wikipedia: <<The National Fed Challenge is an academic competition that provides high school students (grades 9-12) with an insider’s view of how the United States central bank, the Federal Reserve, makes monetary policy.

The Fed Challenge begins with regional and district rounds of competition. Each Fed Challenge team, consisting of three to five students, presents an analysis of the current state of the economy backed by current economic data and a monetary policy recommendation for the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). Following the presentation, judges question each team about their presentation and their knowledge of macroeconomic theory. Federal Reserve Bank economists and officers judge the district competitions.

One Fed Challenge team from each of the four participating Federal Reserve Districts competes at the national competition in Washington, D.C. FOMC members — Federal Reserve Governors and Reserve Bank Presidents — judge the national finals.

The competition was created in 1994 by Lloyd Bromberg under the guidance of Steve Malin, a Vice President at the New York Fed.

Since its peak in 1998 with ten district participants, the Federal Reserve Challenge participation has shrunk to four district participants. In 2009, the National Finals consisted of Choate Rosemary Hall (Boston District), Brebuef Jesuit Preparatory Academy (Chicago District), Montclair High School (New York District), and Collegiate School (Richmond District). The Choate Rosemary Hall Fed Challenge team, who has advanced to the National Finals 11 times, finally won in 2009. They are led by Coach Ted Hartsoe.

This year on May 18, 2010, the fed challenge was won by St. Joseph’s High School (South Bend, Indiana), South Bend, Indiana. >>

Do the houses have competitions? and how big is house pride?

House pride is HUGE. House sports are a pretty big deal, especially house football. During house sports, the houses play against each other. We also have house Olympics at the start of the year and then various interhouse competitions as the year progresses.

LLVILLE, how challenging are the academics? Do you still find time to have fun? Are there sponsored trips to the movies/malls? How do the students integrate with one another if the school is segregated by the house system? THANKS!

There’s a video of the house olympics on the lawrenceville website. I think there are house flags too?

How is the jersey weather?

today, it is like 80 degrees… its beautiful… hey LLVILLE i hate lawrencville btw :p

this year we got 4 seasons - warm now, hot summer, chill fall, LOTS OF SNOW winter, its pretty good.

jerz - mm i guess you go to Hun or PDS?

@ lucky - School is tough, but you get by. We have Saturday classes (balanced out by half day Wednesdays) which shortens your weekend. So pretty much savor what free time you have and make the most of it. Another limit on time is that students are required to play sports at least 3 days a week, often more.

There are sponsored trips to movies/malls almost every weekend. Otherwise you may go on your own.

Despite the school being separated into houses, you must interact with kids from other dorms in class and in sports. Although some of your best friends will likely be in your dorm, students still build a base of friends outside their own dorm too.

how intense is house rivalry? any specific house rivalries?

Intensity of rivalry depends on the event. Probably the biggest events are certain house football games.
“Pride of the Circle” - Cleve Vs. Dickinson
“Muffler” - Woodhull Vs. Griswold
“Crutch” - Hamill Vs. Kennedy

do they do any other sports that aren’t footballcoughWHEREARETHEFEETINVOLVED!?!?!cough any girl rivalries i should say.

LOLZbabe did you take the math placement test already? i didn’t but it doesn’t have a deadline on it so… what foundations art class did you choose?

i already took it and failed miserably… i aced spanish i think though… anyway, i chose the broad art class so i can do photography later. and the deadline was may 19th for all placement tests

@ plaid - loads of sports - [The Lawrenceville School - Athletics: Team Pages](http://www.lawrenceville.org/athletics/team/index.asp)

and there are also ways to get athletic exemptions if you are really good at a sport that the school does not offer at the time but the sport is offered nearby. For example, I know a kid who does kick boxing for his sport

I dont know what you mean by WHEREARETHEFEETINVOLVED!?!.. but if you mean dance or something that is an option too
