The Life I want... Starting with ROTC!

My goal in life is to finish high school, start college with Political Science as my major. I also want to join ROTC and commit to going into the Army as a Commissioned Officer, working my way up the ladder, I will finish my military career and go into politics, starting with Congressman to get my face out to the public, and then Senator. After being Senator for a while, I would run to be the President of the United States. But this is just a piece of my post… I have been thinking a lot about going into the military and I would love to fight for the people and the ideals of this country. To keep the serenity in the country from the outside. Would the ROTC be good for me? Also, I would like to keep the serenity inside the country from the inside. Does the military sound good for a person like me? Does this sound like a good road for me? Does my goal seem good? I want a successful life and a successful future for this country!!!

Thank you for your time and guidance,
BestAndBlessed

Be aware that, over the course of a career in the military, you may have to fight or do other things ordered by civilian political leaders, even though you may not agree with the decisions, or those political leaders generally. What you see as the ideals of this country may not necessarily be the same as what the political leaders at any given time may think.

I have a huge respect for anyone who serves in the armed forces. It is a difficult and a brave choice. If your high school grades and test scores are good, there are excellent scholarships available for ROTC as well. Good luck!

I’m late to this thread but wanted to share that my very good friend has held various positions in local government for over a decade. It’s shockingly cut-throat and corrupt even at the lowest levels of power, and why he has chosen not to run for state-elected positions. Typically people start out with ideals and good intentions but sadly, can’t remain ethical to survive in politics.

Do you wish to ensure there is no serenity elsewhere, or to safeguard that which you feel exists and abounds here?

Do you think that all local governments are like this? They aren’t. In fact, I suggest that what you describe represents a small minority of local governments across the United States.

It is a lovely long term plan but I’d encourage you (and anyone else) to take life one step at a time. Give yourself room to grow, to change your plans as you learn more etc. I’d focus on college and ROTC as your next goals.
