<p>what is the lifestyle like for someone with a newly-minted PhD these days?</p>

<p>you have to compete for grants, have to earn tenure (which is becoming increasingly difficult apparently). i hear some people never get faculty positions and are stuck doing endless post-docs.</p>

<p>so what’s the situation like these days? should people be wary of getting into academia?</p>
