The Long Essay

I have my topics for the longer UChicago essay down to a few. The one I like most is a Vonnegut quote I found about Hemmingway. These are two of my favorite authors, so I feel like I can write a really good essay. However, I am a little afraid that quoting Vonnegut will seem like a cheap shot because he is a UChicago alum. I found the quote by reading the preface to Timequake and know that it will be my best essay, but I don’t want to make it seem like I am trying to suck up or anything.

Any thoughts before I press submit?

if it’s a good essay and it really speaks to you, go for it.
