The long hard road to getting accepted

For many applicants PEA is the gold standard, the school everyone wants to go to (myself included) but not everyone can get accepted. I learned that the hard way as a naive 8th grader last year. but I didn’t give up. I applied again this year, after doing some pretty different things from last year.

Applying is terrible. It’s annoying, boring, tiring, and just exciting and tantalizing enough to keep you going. Not with out the help of family and friends, of course. But everyone here has applied, or is thinking about. How are we not all dead?

I’ sure hope I’m not the only person who’s a nervous wreck right now. For everyone who didn’t get, don’t give up! Don’t be too disappointed, go to a different boarding school or use this year to do something more creative, like homeschool!

Getting accepted this year was a huge shock, I’d convinced myself there was no way I was getting in. And I still haven’t let my guard down. Because I’ve only seen the email, who knows what the acceptance package will contain. What if I don’t get a scholarship?

To everyone who did get in, congratulations, I might be seeing you next year!

PS if this makes me sound dumb and/or like a bad person in anyway PLEASE tell me.

gingergrl you are a nice, thoughtful girl, and PEA is fortunate to accept you!

I’m rejected, but that’s okay. I have learned a lot during this seemingly endless process, which I might apply for my college applications.

So, chin up! For rejected people like me, this is not the end. Nor is it a start. (sorry, I notice that my English’s horrible)

If you literally ponder it, it’s just an email. With some information inside. Perhaps it will change your life, perhaps it won’t.

I want to thank PEA adcoms for spending their time viewing my application.

I’m like a bouncy ball; the more you throw me down, the more I thrive. :D

sorry, as I say, my English’s bad.

I love the bouncy ball analogy :)

I got that from redhotPEA!

But, way back then, my father always gave creative analogies to boost up my spirit.

you sound like a really good person MonochromeAddict, and I wish you’d gotten in! I hope life deals you some good luck some how else, because thats wut PEA is for me. And terrible english is the most amazing quality anyone on the internet can posses =]

I love your post!

I agree completely.
anyway! gingergrl, possibly PEA 2013? highfives

gingergrl: congrats!! i might see u next year at PEA =)

I want to thank all CCers who have shared their valuable experience and supported each other in this process - u have helped me so much along the way and today, i know all of you have gone through tears, frustration, excitement, etc. But it is on this very day that I also realize how warm this community could possibly be.

I’ve also grown tremendously throughout this entire process - four years ago I came to Canada with no knowledge of English, three years ago I got into my current school, and here I am today, fortunate enough to be admitted to PEA and anticipating for the next fresh page of my life.

special thanks to sooooooooo many of you, especially gonnastop - who has been insanely worried about us 2010 applicants even though she’s applying next year.

You’re all really great! Even though I only became a member yesterday, my mother and I have been reading through these posts for a while, and there have been some pretty amazing ones! Class of 2013! We’re unlucky, something something ducky, get used to it!

thanks gingergrl! I wish you, as well as somehappynews, somnusc, and others will have a the most amazing time at Exeter! :D

I feeling like everyone here is proving that teenagers can be pretty freaking amazingly nice and kind =D

I got into PEA and hope to see you next year. Congrats!!

Gingergrl, every word of your post is truth. Congrats on getting into PEA! 8D! Perseverance definitely reaps rewards.

Monochrome, you sound like a really strong and resilient person, and you have no idea how much respect I have for you because of that. Last year I took it pretty hard when I was waitlisted, although I got back on my feet and applied again this year. ALL the luck to you in your future!!! And I didn’t notice any ‘bad english’ until you pointed it out =B

Also, amen to everything somnusc said. CCers are some of the coolest, kindest, and funniest people I’ve ever met, seriously! Everyone here helps out each other. /basks in CC goodness

I hope that I’ll get to meet all the CCers at Exeter next year, I’m sure you we’ll all be really good friends!

gingergirl, Congratulations! Is it possible to share what you have done differently this year? Kinda curious as to what clicks with the schools. Thanks.

I home schooled! At least one school seemed to really dislike this, as well as having trouble understanding… But others were familiar with home schooling and appreciated what I did this year. I think that it definitely impacted the schools decisions. But more than anything, it’s important to make a personal connection with the interviewer. I feel that I managed to do that, and that I approached the application process thinking about what I had to offer to the schools, not how much stuff I was doing, but what personal qualities I had to offer.

gingergrl, Very insightful… Thanks for sharing and Good Luck at PEA.
