the lower tier of nyu applicant (chance thread)

chance me?

GPA: 3.34

10 people or so are applying from my school (grad class size: 83)

GPA: 3.4 weighted

SATI:1900, 700 M, 610 W, 590 R

SATII: 800 Chinese, 650 Chem, 610 Math I(horrible), 560 Bio M(more horrible)

ummm…

HS: Private in HI, we send about 2 kids to NYU each year… or less

Rank: no rank

Fin aid: i think they are need blind, but no need

EC: Drama/Theater 3 yrs with many hrs (prolly too common in NY)
SADD vice pres (4 yrs)
Recycle 2 yrs

Past summer: Cornell&Columbia. A SPLENDID Eval from a Columbia prof (help or harm?)

essay: helping someone out of the closet…

short answers: independence as family value, organization for healthy living, a hawaiian chanting song (lol), and my mom with a book inspired me to choose nutri major

Steinhardt Culture school

Nutritional Science major

Reccs: I accidentally sent 2 instead of 1.

AP Chem (had a C+ one semester, going to send a letter to explain this)
AP Bio (B- 1st semester)
H Chem (B+)
H Bio(B+)

basically I think the main problem lies with my GPA and chem grade… D=

thank you very much for your time =)

There is really no way to predict chances. NYU is a very selective university and like other top tier schools, there are MANY applicants and no way to know why someone got in over someone else. The Columbia thing will not harm you. Good luck!

I think your CR score is way to low for NYU. There’s a lot of asians who rock in math and suck in english, but they usually have like 750s-800s in math and 650 up in CR.

Applying to Steinhardt might have been a mistake. CAS is much easier and you have a higher chance of getting GSP at the very least.

But you know, whatever happens man, good luck!

Pull up the CR score, reading is sort of a valuable skill colleges like to see. I don’t know if CAS has a nutrition major or not, so I’m not gonna tell you to switch. Just work on the SAT’s and I think you can at least get GSP’d.

well, it’s a bit late now isn’t it? I’ll know by Monday, I think

Hey, which Private school on the Big Island are you from?

I got in (Tisch, film and television), and I’m in a small Oahu private school with under 200 people in our high school.

I believe another person in my school applied for NYU, but she still hasn’t heard back yet.

oh, ok, I thought you were a junior coming to see his chances…Good luck.

does HPA ring a bell? I’m guessing you attend Midpac?

O__o Yeah! Hawaii Prep Academy? I’ve seen you guys at the past two state champ swim meets. (Team Captain for my team btw)

Naah, Midpac is pretty big now. Have you heard of LJA? (Le Jardin Academy)
