The Magical ( and somewhat Official) Yale RD Countdown Thread

Ahhh this thread… gotta love it.

The only Zelda I ever played was Wind Waker, and it was cool, but I COULDNT FIGURE OUT THE SAVE SYSTEM (because I was “young and impressionable”, yes, let’s call it that) and the stupid game always had me start OUTSIDE the dungeon I was in, and I was too scared to keep playing the dungeon so I gave the game back to my friend. Blargh.

My first game was Golden Sun: The Lost Age. It was so epic. I went through a Harvest Moon phase after that, then a Final Fantasy phase, then a TALES OF SYMPHONIA (hellllllllz yeah) phase, then a Guild Wars phase, and then stopped playing video games altogether after freshman year of HS.

I might play Tales of Symphonia again just for nostalgia’s sake, but then again, I might not.
That had to be the most epic game ever made, ever.

wow i am so lost. chandlerbing! where you going next year?

yeah, have you decided? Haha, yep the ‘ocarina of time’ was the best Zelda game  ah, why did N64 have to become outdated…

Haha dude I still play N64 with my little bro! Mariokart rocks! And haha so anyone else like mass effect for the 360? I’ve beaten that game so many times… and the COD franchise is just amazing… haha

My first console was some local one which could play mario only
So yeah mario was my first game :)

Them came the playstation and the sega dreamcast which was an epic fail

And i’ve played mass effect
I like it but don’t love it :p

Haha pokemans23, you could be my twin! It is THAT good, and I also loved Mario, Banjo-kazooie, Donkey Kong, etc etc.

I think video games have gotten worse - that’s what happens with commercial mass production, I guess. But I don’t mind  It’s easier not to play now :)

Haha agreed that ocarina of time wins all. Personally my first game system was the SNES. ahhh… the good ol’ days. galaga still rocks. haha

I recently got an Atari for 20 bucks. Totally worth it.

OMG! I love you guys!
My first memories of video games:

Abe’s Odyssey on PS1.
Need for Speed 1 on PC
Mortal Kombat on Sega
Mario Cart on n64
Tetris on the on the grey Gameboy

These are kinda old. LOL.

^ Did you ever play Munch’s Odyssey on the Xbox? Tons of fun. I remember playing that before Halo, and I still like it better.

waits for fanboys to come after him

There is a way in Mario Kart to avoid the blue shell by dropping into second, redirecting it at the new person in first - but it is deep magic.

There is a way in Mario Kart to avoid the blue shell by dropping into second, redirecting it at the new person in first - but it is deep magic.

It took me years to get that trick :/

Now, if any of you remember how to get Link past the unnamed Kokiri/Milo and out into Hyrule field without having done anything first, you will have my respect for knowing one of the blackest of the black arts.

(n64 cartridge version only. Hint)

need for speed 1 on pc! haha yes! I used to play that for hours on the ol’ dell, with the HUGE 10 gig hard drive. haha

And tetris still owns all… I have it on my phone and play it all the time!

reads collegehopefulls post
eyes roll about in confusion

I remember playing nfs
Those days the the computer was like a sacred temple
Not to forget the painfully SLOW dial up connection

Ahh, collegehopefull, I need to know that secret. Please. I hated that guy with a passion. Please  And what kind of HINT was that? And how do you write in italics?

Ok I have to go pull out my old N64 now. Ahaha I’m going to play Mario Kart, muahaha :)

It is an ancient piece of lore.

Start the game, go toward the exit of Kokiri forest, the unnamed Kokiri will be there, blocking it perfectly. VERY carefully, start to lift the left side of the game cartridge - the contacts on either side of the cartridge will be removed from the n64.

Again, this is INCREDIBLY difficult. Expect it the game to freeze, crash, or the "please insert cartridge’’ screen to come up.

If you succeed (there should be plenty of videos on youtube proving this real), the following will happen:

In the n64 (and SNES!) cartridge design, RAM and SRAM are stored literally in different places - when you tilt the cartridge, you mess with the loading of your character (Link), instead of the loading of the other NPC/environment.

And so, Link should momentarily disappear, the camera should move forward uninhibited, and voila! you can get past certain level obstructions.

Of course, playing the great Deku without a shield, or leaving the Kokiri forest with no items is a bit useless. But it’s neat.

Word of warning: in addition to freezing your game and losing data (DO NOT PLAY WITH ANYTHING WHILE SAVING), you could (it’s never happened to me) hurt your cartridge.

@ sev:

Italics, boldface, and even color/size modifications are done with a different form of HTML, (technically a ‘light’ markup language that the board module converts into ‘hypertext’ markup language for your browser to display).

Italics: [ i] stuff / i
Boldface: idem. but you use the letter ‘b’
^ try to figure out what Underlined/Strikethrough commands might be!

URLs: CC’s bbcode parser automatically converts URLs into hyperlinks, so you needn’t worry. That’s what the business is you see when you edit a post you put a link in.
(images and quotes work the same way)

Colors: same thing again…except, you need to specify color. something, i dunno, pick your favorite.[ /color]
removing the spaces…
[color=green]GREEN
Pretty neat.
And then you can change sizes too!
stuff [close the size]

Oh, and you can do smilies too!

You’ve probably seen those, Like, : ), written together makes  !

The reason BBcode is used instead of HTML is because it would be too tempting for many people to try and play with the site using java.

So, CC uses bb, instead of trusting us, (or just using a proper HTML filter)

[size=10]AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!!!

^the most alluring aspect of the post was the last sentence ;)

*** Thank you! ***

p.s. I actually did know how to do the smilies :)

haha, I will definitely try out the * ancient piece of lore * :)

^ Exercise caution - there are many tales of irreplaceable cartridges of old, and even n64 of moste ancient times being forever lost!

aaaah my cartridge is ruined!!! you owe me a new one!!!

just kidding :)
