The Magical ( and somewhat Official) Yale RD Countdown Thread

Haha chameleon’s are really hard to take care of and get sick really easily… I had a gerbil once until one day while I was at school my dog managed to knock over it’s cage, which appearntly opened the latch, and proceeded to, errr… dispose of my gerbil, leaving it on my bed as a “gift”. I was not happy.

oof, that’s too bad
my gerbils got out a few times but i managed to catch em
I once accidentally let some parakeets out while house-sitting for my cousins–trying to catch two tiny birds in a huge 3-story house sucks lol

Haha I hate birds… I don’t know why but they have always just struck me wrong… haha but I can see the antics that could ensue…

I just don’t really get why you would keep a bird for a pet, unless it was a parrot.

They’re like goldfish, except with noises.

So I got into Davidson, guys. That was cool, I guess.
< 20% acceptance rate out of an already quite self-selecting applicant pool (3 extra essays, a la Stanford, on the Davidson app).

I feel like it’s a sign that I’m on the right track :)

P.S. Amen to the bird comment.

^congrats hookem!

^ Thanks, bwb
I felt like it was a warmup for the tough days to come…

Congrats on the acceptance hookem! Hopefully many more to come :).

And haha speaking of goldfish… has anyone ever seen the bubble eyed goldfish? They are so ridiculously ugly yet my girlfriend loves them…

bubble eyed goldfish? that sounds weird.

I’m not really partial to fish (unless it’s sushi), but I think I’d be okay with taking care of “kissing fishes” or the Siamese fighting fish (beta fish). :)

^ Sushi!

hookem: Congrats on Davidson! That’s a great school.
To everyone who applied to Duke: Good luck tomorrow!
And thanks, IndiaRubber  Hopefully your crossed fingers will magically change my admissions decision from a rejection to an acceptance :D

I had a pet bird for about a week… named Ptashinka… my dad mysteriously disappeared one fateful Sunday morning, only to return 3 hours later. However, Ptashinka had also mysteriously disappeared (with cage and all) that morning, and the house was abuzz with confusion. Where was the bird?
My dad returned the bird, it turned out. And to the wrong store, too.

^Story of my life.

Haha they are very odd… and ugly

We have cichlids (mostly oscars) and a pacu (relative of the piranha… has teeth!) so cleaning the tank is a little scary… but feeding time is always fun! haha.

I love how this thread always has to do with the thread topic ;P

Gahhh!!! Duke!!!

I’m nervous, C-B. Hella nervous.

If I get into Duke, I’ll know that I have a legitimate shot of getting into one of my Big Four (HYPS). If I get rejected, it’ll definitely put a dent in my confidence, but I’ll realize that all the top schools are different, so I may still have a tiny thread of hope.

In any case, an acceptance would make this weekend a LOT easier :)

UChicago has made me a bit more confident.
Still, though.

So what are you guys doing to pass this weekend? The weekdays are easy enough with school/work/homework/occasional sleep to keep me busy. But way too much free time on the weekend to think. haha why must they pick a Tuesday?!?

Dude, having UofC in the bag is solid!
Like I said, Davidson isn’t quite that awesome, but I totally know what you mean about being “a bit more confident”…
Let’s hope it’s not false confidence!

@ spunaugle, well, I work on Saturday. Plus, I get my Vanderbilt decision that same day, so that’s very exciting. The amalgamation of my Duke, Stanford, and Vandy decisions should get me through the rest of the weekend very nicely :)

@spunaugle:
Thankfully, My weekend will be pretty busy to keep me on my toes on not thinking about decisions!
I have an scholarship interview on saturday morning, a fundrasier in the evening and a dinner at my friends house.
Sunday a long-long-run in the morning (16 miles), followed by church, a long ass nap (i am usually extremely sleepy half way through sundays, wake up, do all the hw, and then sleep…

as for monday: i am going to be pooping my pants…

anyone else?

How many of us applied to DUKE in this thread? just wondering.
I am not particularly worried for tomorrow, IDK why?
(I’m probably going to get declined)
Hhahaha…

@runkid: 16 miles sunday morning before going to church?? You have to be waking up at like 4 am… haha. But yeah, they decided not to schedule me for this weekend so I may attempt to sleep a full 96 hours… then when I wake up it will be tuesday and all will be good :)

@ RKR, raises hand

@hookem
hahah… that was hilarious. Reminds me of some little kindergarted kid raising his hand to be excused to the restroom or something… hahahaha… IDK why…

so what are you going to do on the weekend hookem??
