The Magical ( and somewhat Official) Yale RD Countdown Thread

No2EULA, how can you sleep at a time like this?! Tell me your secret, I implore you, kind sir :)

Less than 3 hours. I hope.
I don’t wanna spend half the night waiting for the rejection. I just wanna get it over with. I dunno why I feel so bad about it, originally I applied to Yale(&Harvard) only for fun, now I really want to get into Yale. Damn

why did the chicken cross the road?

because he wanted to get his ass away from the crazy anticipation of college decisions.

My secret, Goodwoman Sev?

Incredible amounts of that most highly desired of studentship’s best quality:

Laziness.

[Teacher charged with felonies in deaths of two cats in Boca Raton apartment – South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com](http://www.sun-sentinel.com/community/news/bocaraton/sfl-starved-cats-cruelty-case-p0pnmar31,0,2359403.story)

^ so sad. saw it on reddit

''Two cats suffered so cruelly before dying, prosecutors say,…"

It’s always confused me that a society that eats the flesh of animals also dedicates resources to a pet and veterinarian industry, finds moral ground against cannabalism of the mentally handicapped and eating semi sapient animals (monkeys eyc), but then also has statutes for crimes committed against animals.

Back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth…

steps down from soapbox

^ you can’t really lump eating meat with cannibalism. humans, along with many other higher animals, have evolved to become omnivorous yet naturally disgusted with consuming other humans.

as for the rest: the main issue is cruelty, not the ultimate fate of the animals imho. Yes animals must be killed for food, but the idea is to prevent them from suffering needlessly.

that’s true. i second mcb.

Okay.

sits down, take out gas mask (in case any of you get nervous like that), puts chocolate cake on the table beside her

I’m ready.

okay.

pulls out sparkling juice

for better or for worse – i’m ready. the time for change has come.

Lol, I love how everyone’s got their drink of choice at the ready! :)

“humans, along with many other higher animals, have evolved to become omnivorous yet naturally disgusted with consuming other humans.”

My neighbors’ dog is much more cognizant than a ‘person’ with no brain activity, who is now just tissue kept alive by breathing machines and IVs.

Which is the “higher” animal? There’s really no metric for evolution, other than intelligence. And that certainly isn’t uniform among any species.

“Yes animals must be killed for food…”
I’ve never eaten meat once in my life.
The UN/U.S. Dept of Agriculture publish much data suggesting that, in fact, meat production is a major contributor to global warming.
(10 billion annually in the US alone…all of which are drinking water, eating lots of feed, taking up land for water and feed, taking up physical space, releasing methane emissions…etc)

pulls out tall glass of foamy root beer

Let’s do this.

less than 2 hours… flksdjflksdjfkldsjflksdf

yea, i guess that’s all true – but the fact remains that meat is meat.

I was saying that in order to eat meat, you had to kill animals, not that meat production was essential.

How does this relate to the morality of cannibalism? Eating either of them would be, at the very least, extremely distasteful [no pun intended], although it may seem slightly more appropriate to eat a dog than a human if you block out cultural conditioning. To get really technical: if the individual really had absolutely no brain activity, they’d be declared dead. The definition of death is now based on the brain, not the heart.

To clarify: the original sentence should’ve read that humans and many other higher species have evolved against consuming others of the same species, not “humans” (since it wouldn’t be cannibalism if a shark ate a person).

The specific definition of “higher animals” is unimportant–the point is that many of the more complex animals don’t practice cannibalism. Obviously animals such as insects would not be included.

edit: your neighbor’s dog wouldn’t cannibalize unless it was forced to, either, but it eats meat

Hey hey hey…I’ve come to join the PARTAYYYY! :)

Oh ****! Two hours? Not one?

To quote Dave Grohl: ‘If God didn’t want us to eat animals, why did he makes them out of meat?’

Oh wow… I’m not even going to bother reading the past… 10-20 pages that I missed. I’m just going to not freak out and not flip out… LESS THAN TWO HOURS until our Ivy fates are decided.
My best wishes to all of you: I love you all dearly, and I hope as many of us as possible get into Ivies (especially Yale)

@IndiaRubber: If we both get rejected from Yale, it’s BOX TIME!!!

@limetime: You better still consider Williams even if you get into Yale!

@ everyone else: Only my best, best wishes.

Gah I’m so nervous… I just got home.

…ChandlerBing, your remarks sounds suspiciously like a will. hahaha ;)

^Hahahaha! I was thinking - peachy interior, dark brown exterior? It’s trendy, simple and gives room for metaphorical interpretation, too.
