Was in Berkeley for business and saw this house on the 6th street. Its not on the market, but if you want to make an offer, I am sure the owner will sell. @:)@

Or if you wanna move to my neck of the woods, you can have this beauty, on a 49X121 foot lot for only $1.7million! And it’s not near as sunny over here!

Y’all have to move to the south where you truly can get large beautiful homes for reasonable prices…and good sized lots as well (not the postage stamp sized ones we had in Calif)

Wow…the regional differences are astounding. Those homes in Alabama would be at least 2.5 where I live. I can’t imagine what they would go for in Cali.

Its a joke… If you have not noticed. This is the most horrible house I have seen in California for years. The house had all its doors and windows boarded up yet there are two cars parking in front of the house. Its on the 1600 blocks of the 6th street, just off the University exit on 80.

Let’s come up with some real estate terms and then give the REAL definition about this Berkeley pad:

As is = Too many problems to list
Rustic = A total dump with lots of dry rot
Needs some TLC = A teardown, except for the garage floor
Bring your contractor = Structurally unsound building and/or soil
Cute = Small
Quaint = Small
Cozy = Small
Huge = More than 8’ in any direction for a kitchen, 3’ for a bathroom
Light and bright = Stark white walls with lots of windows that probably need replacing
Hurry, won’t last = Overpriced
Water view = If you are on the deck, on top of a ladder, and twist your body a certain way, you can see what might be a smidgeon of the ocean.
Forever views = More than 25 feet

Yes of course, artloversplus …The comment was more about the difference in regional house prices posted by starbright and mom2collegekids, not the tear down.

jshain…cute in Manhattan means you store your sweaters in the oven once the pilot has been turned off.

mom2: why in god’s name would someone build these elaborate McMansions and put in such crappy kitchen appliances? No hood over the cooktop??? Are they joking?? The first time you cooked something real the entire house would reek of it and be filled with greasy smoke.

^ where we live such houses are at the other end of that extreme with ‘wok kitchens’… a self- contained room off the main kitchen, typically with big industrial gas stoves, a door, and serious venting.

Mom2,
I’ve discovered a lot of properties near walking distance to a beach location with ocean view on a large lot(1/2 acre) in So Cal for twice the price of your McMansion in the South. It has come down 50% from the peak. Still deciding where to buy my vacation home and eventually my retirement home. As I told my husband it must be nice so the grandchildren can come and visit us. :D

PM me for the location if you want to know.
