The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

When you mentioned “a statement necklace,” I mentally pictured something really big and chunky! This necklace makes a beautiful, classy statement. Go with it. It looks great on you and complements the dress nicely.

Same here, I was picturing something much bigger and chunkier. Looks nice. Either necklace would be nice.

Both necklaces look lovely with that dress. I like the statement one. It’s really not busy looking at all. It’s actually delicate in its own way!

@conmama The dainty necklace looks fine but the statement one looks awesome! It just completes the outfit. And that dress looks amazing on you. Love the whole thing!

@conmama - you look amazing in that dress! It really shows off your figure and the color is spectacular with your skin tone! Oh, to be tall!!

Here is my ONLY question about the necklace, and it’s simply a practical one, not one that questions the aesthetics of your choice. Is it going to stay/lay in place or is it going to be prone to shifting?? I’m also a bit worried about those hanging down pieces flipping over. Also, is it weighted enough that it is going to stay centered properly? When you are dancing around, etc?? I ask because of photos. Hopefully, a photographer would be acutely aware of that and would notice if it were askew for an important family photo. But, will you be okay if it isn’t hanging perfectly in the candid photos?

I think it looks lovely! But, I would be fretful about it shifting around. I think I’d constantly be fidgeting with it/checking it. I just hate when I have managed to take a good photo, but a detail like that off. But, I’m probably ridiculously picky and perfectionistic about my photos.

I think it’s hefty enough to stay put. I don’t worry about things like that. But I’ll make sure to do an adjustment before pics. The dress train is what I actually think will be weird to wear, but I love it.

I’ll throw out a MOB question… D1’s wedding is April 2024. I don’t have a dress yet. It’s fine! I will not be wearing a long gown and I’ll be shopping later this month perhaps but want something simple and a tad on the fun side. Waiting for the final decision on the bridesmaid’s dresses before I pick something.

One thing that is important to me is to have some color! I am not fair - sort of have olive skin…I’d like to use a tanner of some sort to just bring a little color to my legs, arms, etc. - I tan easily but won’t be naturally tanning in March/April! I don’t want like a spray tan or anything intense… did you do a self tanner prior to a wedding and how early did you start? A couple weeks before? More or less? Obviously I should experiment a little to try and find one that reacts well to my skin/skin tone.

Here is one example of a possible dress style for me. Dark Green Azazie Fabiola Mother of the Bride Dress Mother of the Bride Dresses | Azazie

I wore something a little similar in style for my son’s wedding and I loved it. Just a little special, good movement, not too revealing! I actually like the navy and a couple other colors.

I love that dress. It wouldn’t worry about tanning, but that’s me (who never tans)!

Even though I live in AZ, I avoid the sun and tanning. I use Jergen’s Natural Glow lotion after my shower every day all year, only on my legs. It keeps them looking naturally and lightly tanned, and it doesn’t build up.

Absolutely LOVE that dress in that color (or navy), @abasket. Definitely something I would wear. Consider yourself done on that one. And, no need to worry about a necklace is another plus.

Thanks. Some skin color is important to me - thus, asking for the advice.

I have this and have used in the past…I’m not sure it’s very effective or need to zero in on the right tint for my coloring - or maybe I need to use it more liberally.

The colors for the bridesmaids are sort of nature/wildflowers… this palette (they will not match):

So once they firm up I’ll get feedback from D on mine.
(as opposed to hard core planners D is NOT one of them and plans will get done but they are simple and not being made too quickly! It’s fine!!0

I think that dress in any color that works with your skin will be lovely, @abasket. You have a lot of choices.

Agree. I just looked at the color choices, and you have a lot you could choose.

@ChoatieMom would be better to answer this…but maybe try that stuff you have now…and see how it goes.

It’s hard to advise because different skin types take differently to coloring products. My skin is on the lighter but sallow side, and the fair-to-medium tint in that lotion works well for me. @abasket might try going a shade darker if what she has doesn’t deepen enough, but maybe this product is not a good chemical match for her skin. I’m sure other posters will share products they have had success with. She has time to experiment.

I have not personally used these, but a beauty influencer I follow mentions using Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops. She mixes them with her moisturizer. I would definitely test/practice ahead of time to make sure it looks good!
