The MOB/MOG Dress Extravaganza!

@deb922 I think a dress that works best for you, based on what we have seen, should have some sort of a sleeve and brighter colors. Long or midi will work with the right shoes. I like the espadrille wedge idea with the second dress!

A few more reasons I like dress #2:

-It has little sleeves. From what you’ve said, you’ll be much happier covering your shoulders.

-There’s a darker color across the whole neckline which provides a nice contrast to your skin. I understand what you mean about being washed out - I’m a Winter from the old Color Me days and even with a great tan, some colors instantly make me look sallow.

-There are so many colors in the material that you can have some fun deciding how to accessorize.

I like the idea of a low wedge sandal. Because you may or may not end up on sand, nothing with a heel that could sink in. Also perhaps something you can easily kick off!

If you want to play up the whole island resort vibe, perhaps coral.

And a nice shrug for a cooler night.

Just brainstorming!

I love #4 on you but agree it’s not the right one for wedding. I’d keep it anyway.
#3 is too much fabric. I think since it cotton it doesn’t hang as well.
I like #1 style wise but agree it washes you out. I like #2. I think the drape of that brand is nice.

One quick thought on that fruity maxi dress - if you really love that pattern, try pinning up the last flounce out of the way and see how it looks as a knee length. If you like that look, then just have the bottom flounce taken off and maybe converted to a wrap. It looks like you might not even need a new hem because of that double band.

Then it becomes a perfect brunch dress!

Number 3 and 4 are the same dress, just different colors and prints.

4 is linen instead of cotton in 3

I like the wedge idea on 2

I have one more dress coming so stay turned.

I think I could make 1 work but it’s not love so I’m going to rule it out.

I assume different lengths, too? They surely look different!

I’ve been browsing Macy’s site that seems to have a good selection of petite dresses. Here are some in brighter colors. Most summer dresses come sleeveless but not all sleeveless are made the same. I like the halter styles personally because they are most flattering.

Thanks for the links.

I was trying to multitask on my response lol

Yes different lengths.

Those are some cute options. Macy’s prices took attractive.

I like 1 and 2. 3 adds a bunch of fake weight and 4 looks very casual

I think the first two are good choices. I found these on the komarov website. Similar but different. I am tall-ish so I am not familiar with petite shopping. I am thinking maybe on these styles petite vs tall sizes aren’t as important as on other styles.

#2 wins my vote!

I like this shoe a lot. I think the shade will lengthen the leg.

But if she is walking on sand, I don’t think she’ll ever get all of it out of that roping on the wedge.

I like number 2 the best of these options, with at least a slight wedge heel.

Bunsen’s first posted dress is interesting.

Have you considered ordering a bunch of dresses from someplace like Nordstrom, having them delivered to the store, and having one of their stylists help you?

Adrienne Pappel(sp?) has a 20% off sale right now, and a bunch of options came up when I searched mother of the bride dress for beach wedding.

When I was at the mall today I was thinking about you and looked at dresses while at Nordstrom and Anthro :).

Is your daughter’s dress more formal or more casual? What kind of material is it?

I might go with something that’s a solid, but probably relatively bright color, but that is with no idea what your daughter or anyone else is wearing.

Thanks

The nearest Nordstrom is 3.5 hours away so it’s not possible to have any help from a stylist. Although it’s a great idea.

I went to Anthropologie to return dress 3 they have no petites and the ones I returned will be sent back.

I also think that dress 2 is the best option I have right now. I do think a wedge heel would be the option with that dress.

I think I’m going to order the first dress @BunsenBurner linked.

My problem is that I’m picky and hard to fit.

My daughter’s dress is pretty traditional beachy.

The 1st Macy’s dress is very attractive and nice if it fits you properly! Great that you have #2 also!

I’ve been trying out fake tanning. My first attempt didn’t seem to do much. But I’m trying!

I like 2 a lot a winner

Bumping this up.

I’m down to 2 dresses for the destination wedding.

I’ve gone back to this dress
https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/the-somerset-maxi-dress2?color=080&size=4000

Can’t find another I like better, it fits well and is flattering

And this

I think I’ll take both dresses and have it be a game time decision.

I’ve also bought this dress for one of the events

It’s very light and easy.

I’m a little concerned that all of these dresses are too dark and too heavy for the tropics. But the no white mandate made it difficult. Daughter doubled down on the no white at all. So that’s how it’s going to be.

I may still change my mind but I really like dress #1. I’ve ordered a ton of dresses and returned a ton.

And although I appreciate @Marilyn help, I didn’t feel pretty in the Komarov dresses and so I sent them back.

I just saw that shorter Lilly dress online today! I think it’s so cute, but their short dresses are just too short for me. And, I don’t have long legs at all.
I think it’s just that I really hate how my thighs look :weary:

I’m happy it works for you, because I love it - especially the waist!

Short Lilly dresses are perfect length for petite women if the top part fits well.

I was told the bride (my daughter lol) is considering dressing me and the MOG in pink.

Um, I don’t like pink.

I hope she’s thinking a darker shade that might look better on me (light-skinned Italian). I understand her feeling on ā€œanything but blackā€ but I’m hoping for a style and color that will flatter me. I didn’t lose 40 pounds recently for nothing! I guess I was thinking I could pick my own dress, in consultation with her. She may change her mind, but I dare not voice an opinion at this point.

My mom wore the same dress to my wedding as she did to my brother’s. Things have changed, apparently lol.
