<p>I’d assume the IMO is the most difficult of all high school math tests. However, does anyone know of some more obscure tests that approach or surpass it in difficulty?</p>
<p>I agree, the IMO is most probably the most difficult of math exams at the high school level. Other math olympiads, such as USAMO, Balkan Mathematics Olympiad, China Mathematics Olympiad, and the TST’s are comparable to the IMO in difficulty.</p>
<p>IMO is actually roughly on par with previously aforementioned olympiads.</p>

<p>Actually, USAMO seems significantly easier (for obvious reasons). I still remember writing an essentially one-line solution to 2010 USAMO #4, which would never appear on an IMO, unless it involved some extremely creative technique. However I’ve been told that the TST’s can actually be harder than IMO problems.</p>
<p>Also, shortlist problems can be harder than the actual problems selected for IMO.</p>

<p>“Team selection test,” a series of tests given to MOP students that basically determines who will represent the USA team at IMO.</p>
<p>A couple years ago for a while the USAMO surpassed the difficulty of IMO. Obviously, this year and maybe last year werent the case.</p>
