THe most difficult SAT math question you have ever seen

Post here your most difficult SAT math question you have ever seen.I`ll start.

Three children guessed the number of jelly beans in a jar.The guesses were 98,137 and 164.None of the guesses was correct. One guess was off by 12,another by 27 and the third by 39.How many jelly beans were in the jar. Answer : 123.

At first this looked impossible to solve but after i read the answer explanation i completely understood it and now i can deal with similar problems.

Yes ,my mistake ,it is 125 .I sometimes type ‘5’ and ‘3’ quite similarly

lol i read 98, 137 as 98,137 and was just completely confused about how the answer could be 125 let alone where the third guesser was.

woops.

Come on post your hardest questions here
This one is from Barron`s

Man, I read “98” “137” as “98,137” as well.

I thought to myself: “What a dumb kid.”

The joke’s on me.

Once i get home i’ll post a question similiar to the QAS question.
that test was
-1=800 on Math lol :P

anhtimmy i can wait.I only hope the question won`t be related to functions ;)

Pic description:
when the paper is put on top of the polygon, x is the bottom left angle that forms between polygon and paper. y is the bottom right angle.

A shaded polygon which has equal sides and equal angles is partially covered with a sheet of paper. If x + y= 80, how many sides does the polygon have?
a. 10
b. 9
c. 8
d. 7
e. 6

The original version is on January 2006 QAS
Section 6 #17

The curve for this test was
-0=800
-1=800
-2=780

^^ I liked that question. Well, after I solved it and the stress went away I did :P

I’m not sure I get the explanation of the picture. If x and y are just two of the angles of the polygon than I believe the answer is b.

yeah, they are two angles of the polygon. this took me like 3 minutes to figure out.
luckily, a little geometry goes a long way :P

I’m proud of myself for remembering the “All the angles add up to 360” rule.

wow u ruined it for EVERYONE else

So x + y= 80 .This is a isosceles trapezoid so x = y = 40.Each angle in the polygon is 140 degrees. So whats next ?How to finish the problem

External angles, if extended, become 40 degrees.

Sum of externals is 360…360/40 = 9 sides.

Whoops. Sorry for ruining anything… My bad.

lool I always forget that the sum of the extrernal angles in a polygom is 360 degrees.

360/40 should do it
