Ok I do not know exactly which lines are supposed to be so bad in Tonights the Night?
Its not a great song but it isnt any more sexual than say something from Teddy Pendergrass or Barry White.

Consolation, I like or at least tolerate most music, but the Pina Colada song should be burned at the stake.

EK: it’s either “Don’t say a word my virgin child” or “Don’t deny your man’s desire/You’d be a fool to stop this tide/ Spread your wings and let me come inside” lines that are the creepiest. It sounds a LOT more like date-rape of a young innocent than seduction of a willing partner. He starts by telling her to stay away from the windows and doors and to disconnect the phone? How did this become an acceptable song?

Stay away from my window
Stay away from my back door too
Disconnect the telephone line
Relax baby and draw that blind
Kick off your shoes and sit right down
Loosen off that pretty French gown
Let me pour you a good long drink
Ooh baby don’t you hesitate cause
Tonights the night
It’s gonna be alright
Cause I love you girl
Ain’t nobody gonna stop us now
C’mon angel my hearts on fire
Don’t deny your man’s desire
You’d be a fool to stop this tide
Spread your wings and let me come inside
Tonights the night
It’s gonna be alright
Cause I love you girl
Ain’t nobody gonna stop us now
Don’t say a word my virgin child
Just let your inhibitions run wild
The secret is about to unfold
Upstairs before the night’s too old
Tonights the night
It’s gonna be alright
Cause I love you woman
Ain’t nobody gonna stop us now

Right. It’s not that it’s sexual–it’s the power differential–she’s young (possibly underage) and he’s putting all kinds of borderline menacing pressure. Just icky to me.

Ew. I forgot how creepy that song was.

And to add: the lyrics are idiotic, too. Does “let your inhibitions run wild” really mean wht he means it to mean?

I liked Rod Stewart best when he was singing with Jeff Beck.

My favorite Rod Stewart song was always “Reason to Believe.” Which was the flip side of my Maggie May single.

Yeah, I liked that one best, too. I actually own that album. (Freshman year of college. )

I think I was 12 or 13 when I bought that 45. :)

I guess I didnt read all the way- or what I looked up left, thar part out.
:p

Rod Stewart rocked when he sang in the Jeff Beck group. Everything was downhill after that…

Agree about Rod Stewart - never cared for his solo stuff.
