Has anyone tried them? I was a big CC fan but was pretty unhappy when they closed their stores. I understand that the new company is totally different and I was ignoring their spammy e-mails, but an 80% sale in the subject line caught my attention. These sweaters look warm and comfy: http://www.coldwatercreek.com/shop-all-categories/sweaters/textured-cowl-neck-pullover/1414420008.html?dwvar_1414420008_color=352#utm_source=etemail&utm_medium=email&utm_content=tnpetites&utm_campaign=011415winterclearance2IP2&start=1 The downside, of course, is an $8.00 shipping charge and if they don’t fit returning them for another $8 mitigates the savings.
I haven’t . We had a store in our town but I always thought they were too expensive. The only time I bought anything was when they went out of business. However I think that sweater looks reasonable so … I think I’m going to go ahead and do the buy one get one free deal!
The store we had seemed to have gotten very frumpy and most of the sizes were HUGE- and I mean REALLY huge. I thought the stuff looked dated. I hope they have improved.
We had one, but it seemed the more “mature” women shopped there. Now, since it’s gone, they have been frequenting Chicos…and I can tell that many of the styles and fits sort of cater to them now. It used to be my go-to store…now when I go in, the majority of the clientele are a generation older. Stylish…but still older. I find I have more difficulties finding things that seem younger in Chico’s now. Not sure where to go.
I had no idea Coldwater Creek was back! I will have to check it out. Is it under new ownership? I liked it about 10 years ago, but have to agree with MomOfWildChild about how frumpy it got over the last few years.
I didn’t know they were back either. I always liked their things, but I’m frumpy. In fact the new sweaters are a tad to short in length for me. I recently ordered some from a place called Soft Surroundings (got gift cert for Xmas), and am awaiting them.
I’ve bought some separates from Chico’s but they have no real petite selection, just short, and their clothing sizes are weird. I may be frumpy too, or at least my mid-section is frumpy and I liked how CC had tops that flattered that area instead of pointing out the lumps. Still thinking.
I am wearing a Coldwater sweater right now.
agree that some things were “frumpy”, but I found a few sweaters over the years that I liked.
I didn’t know they were still around either. I used to shop there a lot but agree over the last couple of years their clothes had become very frumpy. I had really quit shopping there except for their jeans- they just fit me really well and I would wait till they went on sale and then stock up. I’ve moved on to the NYDJ brand which I love, but which are a lot more expensive. I’ll have to take a look at this website. Thanks for the tip OP!
I felt like they sort of got stuck in the appliqued sweaters and broomstick skirt era.
I’ve had a very on again/off again relationship with Chico’s, too. I used to love the original Travelers Collection pieces, but oddly enough, I would get a bad rash from the black pieces. I don’t tend to have skin issues, so that was disappointing. There is petroleum in that fabric (acetate), so who knows? For a few years I was too small for almost all their clothes, and I’m not a waif. I finally just lost interest. I do better for work clothes at Limited, JCrew and Banana.
^^conmama (#3): try White House/Black Market, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom.
Well, my alternative stores tend to be Lands End, LL Bean and Kohls, so I’m thinking that we’ve got some different shoppers on this thread.
My wife used to like going there - they were pricey and conservative, but she wanted some clothes like that and they had good sales. That having been said, we have had so much trouble ordering clothes online that I doubt they will get any more of our business. Too many things look good on the website but are poorly made or fitted or whatever when they actually arrive to tolerate those kind of shipping costs and return policies.
I used to love Coldwater Creek. It was a little more expensive than I liked, but their sales were great. I used to wonder how they could survive with those great sales, and the answer is that they couldn’t. I noticed that their quality started going downhill. Some of their clothes were still great quality and some were very cheap, and it was hard to tell by looking online. I would only purchase online when shipping was free, and I liked that I could return things to a brick and mortar store. I don’t think I will be shopping at the new CC. @takeitallin I too loved their jeans and stocked up whenever they were on sale. Glad I still have a few pairs in good condition. Don’t know where I’m going to shop next!
@walkinghome , I shop everywhere…including consignment and goodwill. I love a bargain, but don’t mind splurging if I love something and fits me well. Normally, those are skirts or pants that I have to buy higher end. @chocchipcookie …I need to try WHBM more, I always pass it by unless I’m looking for black or white…haha.
Does anyone find they have no desire to but anymore winter clothing after december even with 3 more months left. I find we start hibernating more and I don’t wear all my cute weekend clothes like I want to. First world issues.
I had no idea the cc stores closed, but then I have never shopped there. I tend to like the clothes from banana and j crew better.
I loved their jeans, and some of their dress pants fit me well, so I was sorry when they closed. I ordered a pair of jeans and a pair of slim-leg Ponte pants (because it’s a thick warm fabric for days I have an hour of recess duty!). They are in transit. I will report back when they arrive.
Chico’s seems to be made for shorter “Apple” type women. Great legs but hide the middle. They rarely work for me.
Some of these national chains carry slightly different clothes in different regions of the country. Our local WHBM seems to cater to a 25-35 demographic. The Eddie Bauer near my mom is full of stuff my daughters would wear, but my local one seems tilted toward 35-55.
I have a couple of really nice Coldwater Creek jackets in size XS. Trust me…I am NOT an XS.
Vanity sizing.
One more reason to like CC.
conmama:
WHBM doesn’t just have black & white clothes. Lately I’ve shopped their outlet store and bought pretty deep plum colored sweaters and tops. I think now they’re going through a cobalt blue phase…not sure if it was WHBM that I saw the cobalt blue or another website. ^^I’m nowhere near 25-35 any longer
but found age appropriate stuff there for me anyway.
