The Oddest Things You Buy On Amazon

Suppose it could be anything online, but Amazon is such a major player…and with Prime and free shipping - why not?!

Yesterday I placed an order for a few things two of which I was like, “I sort of can’t believe I’m buying these little minute things on Amazon!”

  • large pack of rubber earring backs - I lose them all the time!
  • I wear reading glasses a good bit of the day on a chain on my neck. My two Brighton chains (= expensive for a dang chain!) both had the little rubber loop ends break - the part that attaches to the arm of the glasses - no problem, bought a pack of 24 on Amazon - who would have thought?!!!

Thought it might be fun (and potentially useful!) to hear some of the odd, random, unusual items you have purchased on Amazon.

I just ordered chandelier light bulbs. I didn’t feel like spending the time hunting down the very specific bulbs required.

We received a Tibetan Singing Bowl in the mail from Amazon this week.

H is a pastor and plans to use it to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Hiroshima during worship.

eyemamom: We just ordered chandelier bulbs also. We actually hunted for the ones needed and they were out of stock everywhere we looked. Amazon had them and at a much lower price. The electrician who installed our chandeliers told me that Amazon is the way to go when you need bulbs - available and at a good price.

As for odd things I buy - a package of Red Alaea Hawaiian Salt.

I buy cases of 2.5 oz. shots of pickle juice on a regular basis. It’s the best muscle cramp cure you can find!

^^ wow, that IS unusual! So they are packaged in individual shots???

Are you folks using Amazon Fresh these days? Now, I buy everything from Amazon and I mean everything…all our food. The other day the Amazon truck came to my door three times.

An Irish bouzouki, a violin mute (which came in a ridiculously large box for what it was–before Amazon introduced add-on items), dog food, a black turtleneck needed on short notice in April in Arizona.

Succulent plants.

H ordered a package of Snore Stop yesterday for our trip to take D to college. It works well and the Rite Aids near us were all out or have stopped carrying it. At home I can retreat to another room when the snoring starts but not in a hotel.

I once ordered chia seeds before thy were all over the place even in regular grocery stores.

Yes, @abasket you buy them in cases of 12 individually packaged shots. They are a lifesaver for me in hot weather high-intensity activity. A shot 15 minutes before I start then another if I feel a cramp beginning and I’m good. I used to really struggle with debilitating calf and toe cramps and this has really fixed that.

I have ordered a bunch of oddities on Amazon, but cement mixer is still the oddest thing I bought!

Shear pins (I think that’s what they’re called) for the snowblower.

Heating elements for the electric oven.

Medical equipment. A neck brace and a foot boot. So much cheaper than getting from a medical supply place.

H bought Boston contact solutions in travel size on Amazon–can’t get them at any stores around here and he dreads having it confiscated at airport security, since the bottle he has is 3.5 oz rather than 3.4! The travel bottle is 1oz, I believe and he should have no hassles carrying it on the plane.

He also buys tons of other things from them. I used to buy wax ink sticks for my printer but now I have to buy them from Xerox for “free” extended service warranty. The ink is much costlier, but at least I know it’s genuine.

These are great! Good ole Amazon!

Turnip seeds.

Granola bars

scrapbook posts. I needed to make the scrapbook thicker and Michaels did not carry them. I also buy furnace filters on Amazon (among many other things like toiletries, etc).

Sports pre-wrap. It was before I joined Prime so in order to get free shipping I had to buy 3 dozen rolls. I went with rainbow so my daughter will not be bored. She hasn’t mentioned if she’d used them all yet, but she has two more years of school so I’ll probably be ordering more soon.
