oh yeah, im applying to letters and sciences, most likely.

guys does Berkeley look at 10-11 GPA or 10-12.Which one should i post. Some of you posted 10-12 , so I’m kind of confused :S

@andrewregal: It’s UC GPA.

@kenhivus: Your GPA is awfully low. Your UC GPA is 3.72, the average for this year admits is 4.15. But your SAT scores and ECs look impressive. I think you might have a chance if you write an amazing essay. If I was one of the admission counselors looking at your app, I probably will put you in the middle and ask you to fill out a supplemental questionnaire. But that’s just me, and I’m kinda harsh.

@Berkeley4Life: Berkeley looks at your 10-11 GPA when you’re applying. But if you get admitted, there is a contract you have to follow (maintain 3.0 unweighted GPA for each semester of senior year, no grades lower than a C, report if you get 3 or more Cs, and etc…).

Thanks for the help, Fasttrack. Yeah, I suppose my essay is really the determinant factor in my case–I always felt I was sort of a “middle” kid when it came to Berkeley admissions.

Btw, are you a Berkeley student/alumni?

im a Berkeley grad student, 2nd year.

hello :)

how good is a 4.22/4.23 UC GPA?

Hi lin4621,

I think you have a pretty good chance, especially if your English score gets raised. You seem pretty bright and I think that in light of the budget cuts, UC Berkeley may want to admit more out-of-state and International students for the increased tuition rates. Even if you don’t get into Berkeley though, I’m sure you’ll get into other UCs as well.

sorry, I just wanted to clear up a big misconception people have about UC GPA. It is true that the cap is used; this is to determine eligibilty only however. Uncapped weighted GPA, comprised of 10th, 11th, and community college grades in that time is used for actual evaluation of application by competative schools such as UC Berkeley and UCLA. Only the lower tier ones, such as Riverside use capped GPA as the most important factor.

I’m also in both band, choir, and our select vocal group. I have given up a lunch and study-hall for the past three years to achieve all of this.

cheerleader: I don’t think you did the UC GPA right. It’s capped so it would be lower than your weighted. You can’t have a 3.5 UW and have a UC 4.2. (same as me)

It appears that every chancer posts the same thing: GPA ~3.9-4.0 Tons of AP & SAT
dozens of random clubs, high honor with prestige, etc… are you guys not confident enough that you need someone else to tell you so? If i were on the adcom I’d care less about grades and look at you as a person. In the essay i would look at your development through the years, especially if you have made the best of your talent or did something spectacular because adcom are people, not a machine to jam your application into.
