There’s a lot more EC’s and the descriptions don’t really serve the activity justice (I didn’t want to do a laundry list and practically post my resume).

Highest ACT score I’ve gotten is a 23. Low, I know. I’m a horrible test taker. I’m re-taking it again in October…so…hopefully it will go up.

Taking SAT Subject Tests in October also (Bio and Lit).

So…any chance at all? :/

UC GPA: 3.83
Unweighted GPA:3.7
Weighted GPA:3.83

California Resident, Out-Of-State, or International: CA resident (Bay Area, baby)

SAT Reasoning Scores

AP’s:

I’ll be taking Chem, Calc AB, and Physics B senior year

Which college are you applying to? (Letters and Science, Engineering, Chemistry, etc.)
I think Letters and Science

List a few of your most important ECs (a laundry list of 20+ items is not needed)
Piano for 11 years
Volunteer service abroad (3 weeks)
Volunteer service (tutoring, environmental cleanup) ~200hrs.

Any other significant accomplishments in a specific field
Not during high school.

What’s my chances? (If possible, for UCLA too)

Wooo, international applicant here!!

Don’t know GPA or rankings, but should be top 10%

SAT Reasoning - 800 Math, 700 W, 750 CR

SAT II - 800 Math II, 800 Chemistry, 800 Physics

Full IBDP candidate, predicted - 7 HL Math, 7 HL Physics, 7 HL Econs, 7 SL Chem, 7 SL English A1, 6 French ab initio

Don’t know college which I’m applying to yet.

Important ECs -
Soccer school team for 6 years, held vice capt rank for 1 year. <–my one true love
NCC (Land) for 4 years, 3rd sergeant
Industrial Business Attachment Program
Participated in Opening Ceremony of YOG
Leadership Development Program
Over 400 hours of community service

Note that my school is frikkin competitive. Like seriously, extremely competitive. It’s an independent school and is recognized as one of the top IB schools in the world. So yeah.

Nosike: take your SATs and come back. Also, URM does not affect your chances for UCs and income doesn’t matter.

telegraph: your GPA is good but ACT…yikes. Have you tried taking the SAT? You might do better on that. It would help more if you could get your SAT II scores too. I also need to know if you’re in-state or not.

bitturiju: great scores, solid ECs, I need to know your GPA for an accurate assessment but I think you have a good chance.

TO EVERYONE POSTING HERE:

I’ve noticed since starting this thread that CollegeConfidential has added “Applicant Stats.” You should get a good idea of your chances just by reading through those, so try doing that instead of posting here as you might wait a while to get a response.

Please read the first post. All we really need to know is your GPA (UW/W), SAT/ACT, SAT II, a few (3-5) important ECs, and if you’re in-state or not. These long walls of text aren’t really helpful and discourages people from reading it all and responding to you. If you’re missing some of this info (test scores, for instance), wait until you have taken them and then ask about your chances.

As always, I’m not here often so shoot me a PM if I haven’t responded to your post in a while.

I’ve taken the SAT’s before. It was worse. I’m an out of state student. I don’t do standerized tests, my brain doesn’t work that way. I can get an A in any AP you throw at me, but these tests are different and are not accurate towards my capabilities. Those tests shouldn’t even be the deciding factor anyways.

Out-of-state? Hmm…I’m gonna say 10-20%. High SAT II scores might help a little. SATs are not the deciding factor but they are a factor and it does hurt your case.

Well, honestly that calculation doesn’t make sense, to be honest with you. If you have told other people who have lower GPA’s and less EC’s then me that they have a better chance, it doesn’t add up. But, I’m just stating what I have seen in the past pages. It seems like you’re mainly basing it around the SAT’s scores, which is unfair to the majority of the people on here. The posts don’t even justify people’s resumes or essays, how could you possibly estimate what percentage people have to get into a school?

I replied in PM (because you PMed me with that question) but a short response for people here: I’ve said numerous times that I’m only making an educated guess, like everyone else here, based off of past applicant data and admissions data I’ve seen (and believe me, I’ve seen my share). You can do the same by simply going to “Applicant Stats” and see how you measure up. Ultimately nothing any of us post here will affect anyone’s chances, so just apply and hope for the best.

Applying for undeclared/Econ and hoping to get into Haas

So, I’m a junior in high school currently, but I’m applying this year.
My transcript is quite messed up as I have ran out of highschool courses in my school, and I took IB level courses under the name of PIB or independent study.

UC GPA- 4.12
UW GPA- 4.0/4.0
W GPA- 4.88/5.00
Class Rank- 1/156

Out of State

SAT 1 (estimates):
Math: 800 (for sure)
CR: 660ish
Wr: 650ish
(I have an SAT 1 from freshman year with 800 Math, 590 Wr, and 640 CR, in the worst case scenario)

SAT 2 (estimates):
Math 2: 800 (for sure)
Physics: 650+ (for sure, probably 700+, trying for an 800)

I’m applying to Engineering for EECS

Important ECs:

I hope I get in. I’m applying this year, as I want to be able to learn, something I don’t have the opportunity to do in school.

BTW, I’m from rural Wichita Falls, TX.

IN STATE (Berkeley is my “reach” school, but please tell me chances anyways :] )
MAJOR: CIVIL ENGINEERING
GPA: 3.88 UW
4.21 W (both UC)
upward trend from freshman year ( even though they dont calc. in gpa) i went from a 2.9 freshman year to a 3.8 sophmore and then to a 4.0 first sem of junior year and 3.8 second semester ( all unweighted tho)
CLASS RANK : 29% (the ranking system at my school is kind of weird, its completely unweighted so people who are taking reg classes and like getting 4.0 can be taking up top spots) (does this reallly matter at Berkeley)
SAT1 : 1830 but i plan on retaking and getting a 1900+ (how important is SAT b/c i think im one of the people who are really bad at it :/)
ACT: (practice tests so far : 30, 33, 31, 32 (some of them w/ essay) ) (i usually score 36s in math section)
SAT2 : taking in Nov or Dec ( 740+ in math and 700+ in chemistry hopefully)
IMPORTANT EC’S: 200 hour internship with networking company
A-train peer tutoring
library volunteer work
senior homes volunteer work
designed and built a model of a house and a truss bridge

7 APs
PERSONAL STATEMENTS : GREAT

p.s does first generation to attend college or low family income matter in application process ?

Thanks everyone

kevinluvsheaven: Good GPA, great scores, ECs are okay, 70% chance.

shrig: Great GPA, scores a little weak but at least strong in the right subjects (from my experience engineering mostly care about your SAT Math score and SAT II science scores), nice ECs, engineering and OOS will hurt you, also I’m not familiar with applying as a junior but I’d guess…50%.

alving: solid GPA, trending doesn’t matter but they ignore freshman year so that’s good for you, SAT is low though, helps if your math score is high at least. ECs are okay. I would say 25% because of the SAT score and it’s harder to get into engineering, my theory is engineering cares more about scores than L&S. Good luck. Getting high SAT II scores in math/science will help too.

In-state
UW: 4.0
Weighted: 4.57

Do I have a chance in any of these?

You have at least a 30% at each one.
Taking this, your chance of getting into any of these (including berkeley, I’m assuming) is 1- .3^11=99.999%
so don’t worry
