2 more months of waiting is going to kill me …

****. This thread makes me feel so inadequate. I guess I can eliminate Berkeley from my future options…

do SAT 2 scores not count next year? i think i read that on a couple of previous posts…

^^They’re taking out the subject test requirement for next year, but it’s still highly recommended you take them if you want your application to be competitive…

CHANCE ME PLEASE :)

Applying for their architecture program
I’m from out-of-state (Illinois), but from a good “blue-ribbon” public school.
I’m a white male is that factors into the decision at all, haha
Class Rank: 10/545

My Berkeley GPA (unweighted): 3.913
Weighted: 4.695
ACT: 36
SAT II: 690 in Spanish, 780 in Physics, 790 in Math II
AP’s: AP Language and Composition (5), AP Psychology (5)

Senior Courses: AP Literature, regular government/economics, interior design, AP Spanish, AP Physics, AP Calculus BC

Extra-Curriculars: GSA Vice-President (Gay-Straight Alliance), Math National Honors Society, Peer Mediation, Spanish National Honors Society.
(I’ve only been in all of my EC’s for 1-2 years, which could make them worth less.)
Plus I work 12-16 hours a week at a local grocery store

No volunteer work/community service that I mentioned

I thought my essays were okay when I submitted them, but looking back they were a bit whiney and poorly-written. I wrote one about growing up in a conservative Illinois suburb (I’m gay, so people weren’t exactly friendly), and the other one about my ability to handle stress and take on a large workload. Overall I’m not happy with how either of them turned out, and I know essays play a large role in the admissions process…

So, if it’s not too much trouble could you all approximate my chances! Berkeley’s my top school, so I just want to get some insight on whether I should worry or not. Thanks! :)

I am an African American Student at one of the most competitive public schools in the nation. I want to Major in Political Science (and play soccer) and I wanted to apply to

I really slacked freshman year and got a 2.93, I did a only a little bit better sophmore year with a 3.14 and junior year I have gotten a 3.74. My final Gpa will likely be around a 3.25 UW and Weighted will be around a 3.65.

I got a 2150 on my SATs (first time, I think I am going to take it again and shoot for a 2250…I know easier said than done)

I have taken 5 AP classes
U.S History (Freshmen Year): 3
Gov/Politics (Sophmore Year): 5
Psych AP (Junior): 5

English AP (Junior): 5

My ECs are where I focused a lot of my attention throughout highschool (which may have not been the wisest decision)

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info?
What would be my GPA approximately with AP(bonus points)?

Oops. wrong date i applied mid november

Can someone explain to me how the hell some people have 4.6 UC GPA’s or even like 4.3’s. I honestly don’t know how that works because I have taken the most rigorous Ap classes at my school and gotten straight A’s yet I can’t get past a 4.1 UC Gpa. so plz can someone who has a uc gpa that is really high just show all their courses and grades they received. thank you so much in advance!

They aren’t calculating their UC GPA… most kids don’t know that you can only weight 2 Honors/AP per semester for UCs… they just weighted everything :)

Hope that helps :P

cal and ucla dont do the cap fyi

what do you mean they don’t do the cap?

Oh, that makes so much more sense. So i guess I would have a higher UC GPA as well if i didn’t cap it. Hmm. Oh and to the person who asked what capping meant: basically Uc Berkeley allows students to add one point for each honors and Ap they got instead of only allowing a maximum of 8 points and then cutting it off. Im probably not the best person to explain this since i just learned about this!

you can only weight 2 courses per year. So basically, you can only get max 6 points extra [freshman year doesn’t count].

If one year you only took 1 ap/honor that year and 4 the next, then you can only weight 3 points that year, because it’s max 2 per year for a total of 6 overall.

thats so wrong^^^^

Wait so we can add points to more than 8 semesters?

uc gpa is an 8 point semester cap for an extra point for honors and aps for 10th and 11th grade. But cal and ucla use it so there is no 8 point cap.

^Where does it say this? Can you post a link? I was always under the assumption that there was a cap.

Also, for OOS students, we can only add an extra point to AP Classes, not honors, correct?
