Okay, so I know this may be a dumb question, but, is it possible to get accepted into UC Berkeley with a 1590 SAT. I have a 4.4 UC GPA and a lot of extra-curricular, awards, and I think that my personal statements were pretty strong. Somebody please let me know?

I just didn’t do too well on my tests but other than that, I am an excellent student.

@ojl4toni, yes, you can still get into Berkeley! I was accepted with a 1620, BUT I graduated with a 4.7 weighted GPA and did a lot of “prestigious” extracurriculars, I hope I helped!

Hello im reallly sorry im not strictly following the guidelines but I had already had it all typed up… any response is much appreciated
Im a junior in high school and I have a great interest in a service academy or an ROTC program. If i were to do ROTC I would like Boston College or a school similar (suggestions would be very helpful). Heres my situation

GPA 3.37 (bad freshman year, progresses with a sharp upward curve from freshman year)(will improve)
Class rank: just about 20%, class size of over 500
Tests: in the process of grading
Sports: Basketball: two years, Football: one, Swimming: One and Varstiy letter, Debate:two and letter
clubs: Tri-M (promoting music in the community), Model United Nations (club captian)
Job experience: United States Sente Page, Youth Ambassador Program (poll worker)
Lots of community service with Habitat for Humanity
currently three AP classes and honors since freshman year, four or five AP next year
including AP Chem, AP Language and Composition, AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Biology, AP German
probably some more stuff I should add but I am currently blanking.
But I would really appreciate honest assesment and suggestions of ROTC (any branch) programs that have schools the same caliber as Boston College. Thank You.
I also would like to add that I Have won debate tournaments, music competitions (band bassoon), and Language competitions
Sorry I forgot to add im from Alaska. Im pretty sure admissions are zone based so I pretty sure this improves my chances by a lot. ???

I am currently a junior at a respectable public high school. I’m a white male, from an upper middle class family. I will most likely be applying regular decision. Berkeley is probably my top choice. I know a few alumni, but I don’t think that is of any importance. Please give me an honest chance, and provide any constructive criticism that would improve my application.

P.S.
According to my school’s Naviance page on Berkeley, I am within the average GPA and am well within the average SAT.

Thanks!

Powerbond - Though I am a mere senior and am waiting on an answer from Berkeley just like you are, I can pretty much say that you are getting in. Your scores and ECs are way above average. Your GPA is also above average (maybe not quite as much above average as your scores, but it’s still a really good GPA).

so just wondering for a friend, is a uc gpa of about 4.3 and sat just above 2000 and good essay good for getting into berkeley engineering major? not eecs fyi. thanks!

Cal has always been my dream school and i have the greatest passion to go to this school and i will definitely appeal if i dont get accepted. Please give me a hard honest truth about my chances >_< can’t wait until the actual decision date!!!

hey guys. im here to tell you a story.

i am a current student at uc berkeley.

my graduating gpa was a 3.7 unweighted/4.4 weighted
[one of my grades included a C in ib biology.]

my sat: 1930

math 2 subject test: 700

lit subject test: 560

ib math 2 test SL (out of 7): 6

ib econ SL test: 5

…and i still got in.

so stop worrying, numbers aren’t everything.

i know it was my essay that sold me to the admissions office, and maybe my extracurriculars. numbers don’t mean everything.

i didn’t get into ucla, ucsd, and pomona. but got waitlisted at claremont mckenna, which is much harder to get into ucsd. i even got into the business school (McCombs) at the University of Texas at Austin

i used to stalk the college confidential pages of every college i applied to. when i did not get into ucsd, i was worried that even ucd wouldn’t let me in. and this only made me more stressed and stalk the pages even more. but it got me nowhere. please don’t do what i did. enjoy what is left of your senior year and just let the decisions come. there is honestly nothing you can do about it now.

good luck though! be positive-you never know what is going to happen.

I described my passion for engineering and how my trip increased that passion. For my second essay I wrote about a softball tournament I participated in for NJROTC and how we ended up winning it. In my optional essay I talked about my trip to England and France in 2006 and how it made me want to become fluent in French and to study abroad someday.
