I hope people respond! I like Berkeley!
Also, summer of 2009 (freshman going to be sophomore) I worked on a photovoltaics project with a small group.
And then, as I said, summer 2010 was research.
I’m going back to UCLA to do my independent project research again this summer.</p>

<p>There’s still time! What should I improve? What do you suggest I can do to help stand out!</p>

<p>Thank you so much!</p>

<p>Four 5’s on AP exams (through junior year): World History, US History, Biology, English Language

<p>GPA UW: 3.52
W GPA: ~4.12

Course Rigor: 5 APs soph-jr year - max amount of AP classes available at our schools for those years. 5 more AP classes slated for Sr. year. Every non-AP class was an honors class with the exception of spanish, for which there is no honors class.

2) Debate team, designated as the captain for senior year.
3) Newspaper club - associate sports editor
4) 100+ hours (I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 150-160) volunteering at the local homeless shelter

Intended major: College of Letters and Science –> Social Studies –> Political Science.
State status: Out-of-State. DUNDUNDUN!</p>

<p>UC GPA: Uh, I have no idea? Is each semester a stand-alone grade? So, do I put down 2 As for getting an A for both semesters of AP Lang & Comp? Or just one, since it was a year long class? I tried both approaches.
Each semester grade as 1 (So 2 As for AP Lang & Comp): 3.83
Each course grade as 1 (So 1 A for AP Lang & Comp): 4.17
Considering my low UW GPA, the former (3.83) is probably the correct one, because there’s no way I have a 4.17/4.4. If anyone wants to try calculating, here are my scores:
Sophmore Year:
Spanish 2: B/B
Gym/Health: A+/A
Honors English: B+/A-
AP Gov/AP Microeconomics (each 1 semester classes): B+/A
Honors Chemistry: B/B
Honors Geometry: B/C+
Junior Year:
Spanish 3: A-/A-
Gym: A/A
AP Lang & Comp: A-/A-
AP United States History: A/A
AP Environmental Science: A/A
Honors Pre-calculus AB: B/B</p>

<p>I’ve used this UC GPA calculator:
[CaliforniaColleges.edu</a> - Calculating Your GPA](<a href=“http://www.californiacolleges.edu/admissions/california-state-university-csu/gpa_calculator.asp#calculator]CaliforniaColleges.edu”>http://www.californiacolleges.edu/admissions/california-state-university-csu/gpa_calculator.asp#calculator)
And I’ve used this as my resource for Berkeley’s available majors (L&S):
[Office</a> of Undergraduate Advising: List of Majors](<a href=“http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/majorlist.html]Office”>http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/major/majorlist.html)</p>

<p>I’m really hoping for that 33-34 on the ACT. Assuming I do get it, what are my chances at Berkeley? I saw Berkeley’s average accepted GPA, and it’s really depressing. I was recently told I was wasting my money applying to Berkeley - with my GPA, it’s a surefire failure. Even if that’s true, I’d still like to apply. Do you think there is any merit in me applying? </p>

<p>Sorry for the unfocused ranting that appears in this post, I’m simultaneously studying for USH, filling out summer camp applications, and typing.</p>

I would classify you as a reach of UCB. Your GPA is a little bit low and your standardized tests aren’t high enough to balance it. </p>

<p>Your course rigor is really good. What were your scores on your exams? High AP exam scores can balance out a sub-par GPA, especially if you scored 5’s in classes where you earned B’s.</p>

I just took Math II and US. The biology score would have been higher, but I registered early and took the test with only one semester of learning under my belt.</p>

<p>Which college are you applying to?
I would prefer applying undecided, but I will listen to suggestions. I’m not sure if my application is strong enough to give me a chance at getting admitted to the engineering school.</p>

I’ve helped produce an award-winning newspaper for the past two years. I became editor of a page this year and have won awards for my articles.

<p>Any other significant accomplishments in a specific field
I have a state medal (just one :)) in Science Olympiad.
I have a couple county medals in Science Fair. I also won second place in the county chinese speaking contest last year.
I hope to join other events and continue Science Olympiad senior year.
I also have a second place plaque from the local Scholastic Press Association.
Maybe I can perfect my dougie and join hip-hop club :)</p>
