Which college are you applying to?
EECS

List a few of your most important ECs
-co founder and president of my high school’s FRC team, that competed in nationals in St. Louis as a 1st year team
-piano theory for 10 years
-CSF and NHS member and secretary
-3 year member of academic team (starter, mostly calc and science questions)
-COSMOS at UCSD (computer science course). Won the Gordon Fellow’s award for having the top final project in my class.
-Academic Connections at UCSD (robotics course). Got a scholarship to attend.

Any other significant accomplishments in a specific field
-NCWIT Aspirations in computing national runner up and San diego winner. (national runner up is given to the top 15% of applicants)

Also, I think my personal statements are very strong. My first one is about feeling conflicted with my National identity (Born in Singapore, moved to SD, but told I was Canadian my entire life) and how that’s allowed me to chase my passion to be an engineer in a world not dictated by attachment to a single country/place. My second essay is all about founding my robotics team and how I started it because I wanted to learn more about engineering but what I got out of it was how to start and run a small business and I brought the first and only engineering activity to my high school.
I know my SATs aren’t very strong for COE, but I’m hoping that they can see past that and place more inportance on my GPA, extra curriculars (which are very focussed and show my interest in EECS) and essays. Anyways, I’d like to hear other people’s opinions

APs: only one I’ve taken so far is AP Euro, which I got a 5 on, but this year I have Calc AB, Chem, US History, and Lang. I’m reasonably sure I can get 5s on all but Chemistry, and I’m taking another 4 APs next year with possibly one or two self-study APs tossed in there.

Did JROTC my first two years at my old school until I moved, where it wasn’t offered. Play varsity chess for my school, two years.

@daniel98609 Hey, I got admitted to UC Berkeley this year under CS out of state as well, and I’m planning on going. I’d say that SAT II’s will not hurt ifyou do not take them. And generally, UC Berkeley heavily looks at grades and test scores, and your grades and test scores are top notch. I did some statistical work while I was panicking about admissions decisions, and I found that around 75% of kids with 2300s+ on SATs will get in. This was out of a sample of around 100 kids who scored a 2300+ on their SAT or 35+ on their ACT. I know it’s a small sample for the over 78,000 people who apply for freshman admission, but you can get an idea. A 2300 generally correlates with a high GPA because if you care enough about school to get a 2300, your other areas will be fine. However, the 25% that did not get in often had a fatal flaw (i.e. incredibly low GPA, no extracurriculars, etc.) You look good, and I think it is safe to say that you have a strong chance to get in. However, one thing I do want to point out to you is that your UC GPA may be incredibly low. It consists of your courses taken in the summer before tenth grade up until the summer after eleventh. PM me and I can calculate your UC GPA for you. Generally, I think a 4.65ish weighted UC GPA is considered to be very, very high. (around top 2%?) Also, I do have some extra resources about Berkeley’s admission process that I found extremely useful, and I can tell you about them.

ONE MORE THING: More and more people are applying to Berkeley for CS. So many in fact that the amount of people in the Letters and Science that want to do CS has almost tripled over the past few years. 300 to 900, I believe. Berkeley is attempting to curve this but raising the minimum GPA requirements in core pre-requisite courses, and they may (but it is unlikely) impact the CS major when you apply for L&S. In other words, they will take what major you are applying for into account. Again, this is unlikely.

Repost. Please post thoughts.:

My major is pure math. My gpa by the time of transfer will be about 3.89.

I would have taken up to Differential Equations by then and also have taken both of the Calculus for Life Sciences courses.

I’m transferring from a CC.

Thanks

Are there reasons for why I might not be admitted?
Up to the point of my supposed admission, I would have only taken three semesters of full-time course-work in mathematics. The first one a summer session, and the last one exceeding in credits with permission by the school. I haven’t taken many courses per semester until recently.
