The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@cayton, #:-S

@Cayton - I actually like USC. It’s actually my top choice for grad school. Their MPA program is one of the best.

I was really just flexing my Bruin pride muscles :-)

UCLA back on the plate for me, but after comparing aid, UCLA is much better. I’m getting medical insurance and food for $3000 less a year, if I add the cost of food at Berkeley the gap gets even larger. Berkeley I get no food and no insurance.

Yay official done with school and ready to start at UCLA!

@CSB111‌

Don’t forget that the Berkeley area is probably more expensive to live in than Los Angeles.

@Emirieking‌

Great!

@Cayton‌

Wouldn’t both be equally expensive?

Na. Los Angeles may be more expensive, but Berkeley is even more expensive to live in.

<a href=“Los Angeles, California Cost Of Living”>http://www.areavibes.com/los+angeles-ca/cost-of-living/</a></p>

<a href=“Berkeley, California Cost Of Living”>http://www.areavibes.com/berkeley-ca/cost-of-living/</a></p>

This site compares the two cities…Berkeley is shown to be more expensive. Granted, it’s one site, but I doubt any other sources will disagree.

Score 1 for UCLA!

The equal housing options are a lot cheaper at UCLA. By $2000 at the least.

Berkeley is insanely expensive.

Does anyone know when we find out what housing we get? In a month or two?

this is to people who already sent their SIR, did you guys get to pick your orientation date already? I’m still deciding b/w UCLA and Cal, so I haven’t sent in my SIR so now I’m worried that I won’t get a good orientation date

We can’t sign up got orientation til June 5.

Yeah, I applied to USC just for a safety TBH, if for some odd reason UCLA had rejected me, I would’ve had to make a choice between, UCSD,UCI and USC. I really did not want to leave SoCal, especially LA. I thought about LMU and Pepperdine, LMU only allowed you to bring in a max of 60 credits, and Pepperdine, as much as I would’ve loved to go to school on PCH, it just wasn’t worth it.

As for orientation, yeah, I just might have to wait for that after the World Cup!

Anyone fill out their housing application yet? I want to request the transfer housing experience, but I’m so confused on the rooms section. All I want is a double or triple with the 19p meal plan(its only about $2/meal after the 14p plan).

Does anybody know why the UCLA housing application asks for a picture. I know it’s not for the Bruin Card, so what is it for? This seems strange. I don’t like it when schools have pictures of me.

@CollegeDropout1‌

Error;

“In the event that there is a question regarding a resident’s identity, the picture is an additional means of identification for use by the staff. Submitting a picture is not required to complete the initial application and be eligible to receive an offer, but the picture must be received prior to checking in. After the application is submitted, a student may still send a picture to us through this web site by using the Ask a Question tab and attaching the picture to the email.”

Went down to UCLA this weekend thinking it would make everything clear, but nope.

All I know for sure is that when it comes to:
-general in-campus environment (minus weather)
-extra curricular opportunities
-warm personalities
》UCLA wins

However, concerning:
-academics (professors, course listings)
-weather
-surrounding area
-being closer to home
》Cal wins

For the sake of not offending anyone:
*Please bare in mind this list reflects nothing but my personal opinion, which is based on personal experience and research. Obviously my opinions are bias and are not intended to offend or be seen as anything more than highly subjective conclusions (based on my field of study/interests).

Now to make my decision :(

@AnthroFlo‌

I’m actually excited to see which one you choose :slight_smile: can’t go wrong with either.

Thanks @ocnative
There is a surprisingly long list of others who are also wanting to know my decision, I just wish I knew so I could tell you guys, all I know is I have to figure it out soon.

@AnthroFlo‌ - My prediction is that you’ll choose UCLA. IMO it’s where your heart seems to be.

:)) I never thought of taking predictions, I’d love to hear more if anyone has got any.

@2016Candles
My heart was fully with UCLA, while my head/logic was fully with Berkeley, at the start of this process.
And I think at the end of the day my heart may always be a bit more with UCLA and my head a bit more with Berkeley but things have happened a long the way.
Now a piece of my heart is with Berkeley too.

To try and explain the ins and outs of everything would be too long and complicated. Thanks to something @cayton said to me on this forum earlier, I am much more at peace with the fact that I will be happy no matter where I go but I am, by nature, an indecisive person. I just want to make the best decision possible.
