The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Would you rather go to school in Westwood or Berkeley? It can’t be that tough of a choice. Meaning UCLA>>>Cal. Am I right people?!?!C Don’t you wish your choice was much simpler than this, like UCLA or USC? Lulz, I am kidding of course(I also applied to USC as a safety). I mean, you should just make up your mind now, because even after you submit your SIR, you will still be unsure of the choice. The faster you do it, the faster you can put it behind you. A deadline does not help convince your mind that you are making the right the choice.

don’t rush it though! You’ve spent so much time thinking about it, don’t just be hasty and make a decision that you may wind up regretting.

@CalBruin If I may ask, how did UCLA win you over at the last minute? And you’re Political Science also right!?

@CalBruin‌
Are you allowed to retract an SIR?
I probably would’ve submitted something by now if that was the case…
now I’m running around worried my transcripts won’t get there on time (have to send them myself).
That’s a good question that I sadly don’t know the answer too. I’ve been pretty open in agonizing through my decision on these forums (thank you everyone for putting up with that btw) and I don’t know. I’ll just take a name out of a hat. Why would you say UCLA is better for grad school than Cal? (I’m also considering grad school).

Just wondering, anybody going to sign up for the Honors Program? UCLA called me yesterday, told me about it. It doesn’t hurt you, need a 3.75 or something like coming in, and 3.5 to be able to maintain it. I guess, you get longer library hours, something about research.

does anyone know what will happen if our transcripts doesnt arrive by this week?i ordered mines last friday and am not sureif it is going to make it in time.thanks

@Rosemeadboy‌

As long as it’s postmarked before June 1st, you should be fine.

@Tik1127, library hours?

@Tik1127, do you know if we can sign up for the honors program and then quit any time we want?

@AnthroFlo‌ yes, I had to retract my SIR to Cal. UCLA isn’t a better choice in general for those wanting to go to grad school; it’s just the option that makes sense for me. I like the program that they’re offering and I will have more freedom to take a wider variety of classes. I definitely prefer the quarter system because it keeps you on your toes and it lines up better for my grad school preparation. Take a look at the classes that each one wants you to take and maybe ask yourself which program you would prefer?

@ocnative‌ haha mostly see above^ but mostly UCLA’s poli sci program is just more appealing to me. I enjoy the freedom of the quarter system and being able to survey a wide variety of 10 week classes. Although, I must say that I really did want to go to Cal. Hopefully I’ll make it for grad school.

Just got my summer eFAN. I’m only in one class and grants will only pay for around 1/3 of it. Got some loans offered but no work study. Hope my other eFAN is better than this :/

@RamonaFalls‌ - if you don’t mind sharing, how much was your grant?

@AnthroFlo‌ We’re here for you!

$478 Federal Pell Grant. I’m only in a 4 unit class so I didn’t qualify for a lot of things. Haven’t accepted it yet. I also only got a private loan and I’m trying to figure out how that works.

I registered for 2 classes- 9units- and they gave me UCLA grants for like $1600, and private loans for like $5k, but I don’t really want private loanS. I’m not sure how much of the grant would go away if I only kept 5 units…

Subsidized loans are the best. Private loans usually accrue interest right away, and I would definitely not recommend it unless it’s really neccesary.

@CalBruin, Oh i remember your thread on Cal VS. UCLA. I ended up picking UCLA too but kind of thinking of retracting it and going to Cal.

Thanks @calbro :’)

I sent my transcripts to UCLA electronically a little over 2 weeks ago and it still doesn’t show them as “received” on MyUCLA. I know they say it takes at least 2 weeks, but I’m a little worried now, lol.

How long did it take MyUCLA to indicate that they’ve been received for everyone else who sent UCLA their transcripts electronically?

My electronic one took about 2 weeks from the date the school notified me they had been sent to show up on my portal. Those were actually my SMC transcripts.
