The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@CollegeDropout1‌ Where did you hear that they are brining back the political science minor? I’m also very interested in minoring in political science if I can.

@Ocnative You can take any classes as long as it is not impacted. The impacted ones tend to be the engineering, CS and economics classes.

@Lilyblue They suspended the minor for three years ago. The suspension is going to expire this fall. I think it was @ocnaitve that provided me the source. It was an article written by the university newspaper.

@Cayton You are being irrational!

Polisci is impacted at UCLA though.

And yeah I provided the source for that one :stuck_out_tongue:

I just called the UCLA political science department about the minor. They said that the suspension isn’t lifted until the end of the fall quarter and a decision about the minor hasn’t been made yet. They can either extend the suspension, bring the minor back, or eliminate it completely. They should make a statement about it sometime during fall quarter, but the guy said he thinks they probably won’t bring it back. Darn :frowning:

@Lilyblue12 That doesn’t mean you can’t take political science classes. You can take any class you want as long as the class is not impacted. When a class is it impacted, it means that only certain majors are allowed to take it. If you work around this, then you can manufacturer your own PS minor, it just won’t be officially recognized by UCLA, but that is fine since employers really don’t care about minors.

@Cayton et al about the IGETC deadline:

The official deadline, as stated on the website, is September 1.

I did hear from a couple of counselors at Transfer Bruin Day that if you’re able to get your IGETC in by July 15 (or, at the latest, two weeks before your orientation date), then your GE completion should be reflected on your first Degree Progress Report, which you’ll receive when you meet with your advisor at orientation.

But if you’re not able to do that, I can’t imagine it’d be a big deal. Since you know you’ll be IGETC certified, I’m sure you can just tell your advisor that, and still be able to pick appropriate classes based on that assumption.

Thanks, @keelnailed!

I’m afraid of being down **** creek when orientation comes around with the classes. I feel that they way everything is setup for transfers it makes it nearly impossible to minor or double major.

I want to do the Accounting Minor and maybe the Computation Minor, but all the PIC classes are totally full, and alot of the minors people could do, like Stats, are all restricted until you declare. How the hell can you declare a minor when all the classes are restricted to students in the major only? ■■■?

@CSB111‌

Hopefully, your adviser will help you out with the details at orientation. That’s all I can say, really.

It’s so sad to look at the classes I wanted to take for the fall and see them slowly filling up and knowing I can’t sign up until my orientation in August. All sections of one class filled up in like a few hours. I need to take that class in Fall or Winter otherwise I will be severely set back.

@RamonaFalls‌
Are any of your classes those that they say they hold spots for transfers to register at orientation? Many of mine that are closed are supposed to have spots saved. I hope that’s actually true and helpful.

In my case, I know I’ll get Econ 11 at least, but for the rest, I’ll have two open spots. The other class needed to declare you have to complete Econ 11 first. Other than that, I’ll have two open spaces, and I think it is a waste of money/time if you can’t take anything relevant.

Nobody is going to take 3 major classes so we are all going to be left with a bunch of junk to fill our schedule.

@Csb111 the one class i need for the minor i wanted is full already

does anyone know when the majority of the current students finish registering by? or is it basically only safe up until a day before registration?

@RCLA325 I think 2nd pass ends mid July but they can still register after that so pretty much up till your orientation date.

@RCLA325‌

http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/soc/enrollappt.htm

According to that, start times for continuing students’ second passes are June 26 through July 1. As @sonic23 said, they can register on or after those times.

Can anyone clarify something for me? So we have to pay for the summer housing installments (July, August) even if we are not taking summer courses or anything? Its for the fall quarter? (Talking about the 1600 one due july 10)

@goodjobdaveman‌

Yep. You’ll have to pay for it.
