The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@BurntCorpse‌

Hmm, good.

The class you took might’ve been titled “Ancient Near East” or something…was it a history class concerning the regions of China, Japan, Korea, etc?? Sounds like it.

@BurntCorpse HAHAHAHAHAH, I can’t believe that a social science class was that hard. I thought you were taking a philosophy class. How do you opt of out orientation? Through MyUCLA, right?

Does anyone know how I can change my major without going to orientation?

@CollegeDropout1‌

In the fall quarter, you can probably go get a petition or something from the department under which the major you want to transfer to and have it signed by the chair of the department that offers your major…or vice-versa…I don’t know the details, but that or something like that is how it probably works.

You should look up change-of-major policies online and see how it can be done.

@CollegeDropout1‌

I called the new student orientation number. As for switching majors, just head over to the department you want to switch to in the Fall and speak to their student advisor.

Would anyone happen to be knowledgeable with FAFSA? I am listed for off-campus housing aid on my current provisional letter but I plan to live on campus. Wouldn’t I be able to receive more financial aid? Been trying to call the fafsa department at UCLA but they are always busy and send me a notice to call again in a few minutes…

Also the second housing payment (due july 1) is still for the housing during the fall quarter (not taking summer)? Thanks for any information

I can’t believe I was jumping for joy the day I got admitted to UCLA.

@goodjobdaveman‌
To change your housing option, just login to your account on the fafsa website. There will be an option to edit you current form. Just find the section where you add/ edit school choices. You can change your housing option there.

My admissions contract says nothing about sending in the IGETC certification. It only tells me to submit my official transcripts. I did order the IGETC certification along with my transcripts because I saw everyone else talking about it on here, but do I need to turn it in if it isn’t stated in my contract?

Yes Luke or you may not get credit for the lower division requirements.

@Burntcorpse i was planning on taking an ancient near east class since it sounded fun

But now :frowning: ill look for other options!

@sonic23‌

Use Bruinwalk, if you haven’t heard of it already, to see reviews of various UCLA professors. I sure will.

@Cayton‌ i have been but there are a bunch of professors that arent on there, kinda sucks

lol dang

Good luck with that.

are you guys going to be doing a double major, minor or just take random electives?

im a history major and have a lot of room for extra classes I’m trying to figure out if I should minor in something or just take random electives i find interesting or go for a double major if possible.

I’ve had people tell me a minor is useless than again they have also told me a history degree is useless and i didn’t listen to that lol

@Sonic23 In the fall, they are going to bring back the political science minor, so if you are interested in that, could always major in that.

History degrees aren’t useless, @sonic23.

But you should explore any other fields you’re interested in and see if a minor is right for you. I’d minor in history, but UCLA’s history department oddly doesn’t offer a minor. Only the major.

@Cayton If you are interested in history, you can just take a series of classes that you are interested. You wont get credit for a minor, but that is ok. You don’t have to minor in history to take history classes.

@Collegedropout1 no way! I almost majored in political science! That would be a great minor, ill look into it

@CollegeDropout1‌

True, but I’d like the organization that minors offer. Maybe I’m being irrational, lol

@CollegeDropout1 has that been confirmed already?
