I’m hesitant to ask what UC you are you finally in @collegedropout1? >:)

@lindyk8 hahah, Why are you hesitant?

Because you change your mind every other day!!!

I’m assuming it is UCLA because I don’t see how you can still be allowed to SIR somewhere else at this late date - even a double SIR, I doubt they would ever stretch it out out like this. I think they allow you about one week to decide.

@lindyk8
The UCs gave him until today to pick a school, so it could still go either way…

A coy male. X(

@2016Candles Hahah, you’re right about me changing my mind every single day. They actually gave me until the 7th to decide.

@CollegeDropout1, how many prereqs have you completed for CS? I am also debating a major change, and I find the CogSci program to be very interesting. I was under the impression that it was nearly impossible to switch into the CS major at UCLA.

You can switch into CS through Mathematics of Computation (if you finish the prereqs), but like I’ve said before on here, Mathematics of Computation is very flexible and doesn’t require all the Samueli Engineering prereqs (Physics with Lab, Chem, EE etc).

@ivelosthope At UCLA, you can’t switch into CS because it is in the college of engineering. To get into CS you have to apply as a CS major. However, you can change you major to linguistics and computer science, which is hosted in the College of Letters and Sciences under the Linguistics department.

@CSB111 The Mathematics of Computation also requires a lot of prerequisites that are not related to math. I believe that the major requires some physics and chemistry classes. I also emailed the department, and the Math Lady told me that they rarely allow transfer students to change into the math department after they have been admitted.

It requires 3 physics courses or 2 physics + 1 chem, both without labs. For CS you need 3 physics classes + 2 labs, a chem class, two EE classes.

Other than that everything will count. I’ve talked to a member on here who has confirmed everything I’ve said because he did it. And they will let you into the math department if you have the classes done, what do all the people that don’t get into Business Econ go into, usually Math/Econ (if you’re under 160 units I think).

are housing CARs processed in a “first come, first serve” manner? I sent one a month ago but then I accidentally cancelled it so now I’m worried I won’t be able to get a change

UCLA is a great school, but a lot of unscrupulous students go there, unfortunately, and look for opportunities to steal valuable items, such as laptops. In fact, UCLA is one of the worst public schools in the country when it comes to laptop theft occurrence. It happens a lot there.

http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1005245

Here are some resources and advice for owners of laptops and other electronic devices to keep their possessions safe. I encourage everyone here to click the link. UCLA is offering free software designed to protect laptops against theft and recover them if they’re stolen. You just need to provide your @ucla.edu email address.

I hope this has been helpful.

@Cayton

The worst you say? >:)

Yep, @ocnative. I think it is the worst.

They reneged on that article after a huge backlash, led by the LA Weekly. UCLA is no longer in the top 10, I believe.

@lindyk8

Hmm, lots of UCLA students can attest to the theft problem that’s been highlighted by these kinds of rankings. I’ll still be wary of my fellow bruins, lol.

Oh, and on that list, we beat Berkeley. Hooray for being #1 in something! :P

@Cayton this makes me scared to bring my laptop to orientation lol

I read it speed up the process but i also read somewhere in a post that we can’t have backpacks with us during lunch so you havr to rent lockers for your bacpack or risk your laptop

@sonic23

Really? Can’t bring backpacks to lunch? That’s ****ing stupid. :(

My friend goes to UCLA, and to prevent people from stealing his laptop,whenever he is sitting down, he always wraps his backbag’s strap around his foot.
